Dd 8months has been running a 38ish temp since Tuesday. She’s snotty and grumpy, not keen on solids but has been drinking around half her usual amount of milk. We’ve been rolling with it’s just a cold, but I’m starting to double guess myself. (She was a 33 weeker too so is still under 14lb) do we continue to watch and wait (and try and deal with the grumpiness) or would it be worth getting in with the gp in the morning?

How are her nappies - is she having plenty of wet ones? To be honest for peace of mind id take her in - especially just before the weekend (if you go she'll be fine, if you don't you'll need an appt and not be able to get one!). Ime drs are quite happy to see babies to reassure you.

Have you given calpol and ibuprofen? Wet nappies, any sign of dehydration or difficulty breathing?

Ihavealwaysknown · 31/01/2019 16:07

Calpol doesnt appear to be doing much, less wet nappies than usual, but there’s less going in 🤷🏻‍♀️

Breathing wise just very very snuffly.

Ibuprofen is more effective than calpol in bringing down temps. Trust your instincts though

Hi Op, our little girl (10 months old) was like this two weeks ago, a off and on temperature she is 10 months so we treated as per the nhs website, for a good few days, ended up taking her to out of hours GP on day 5 of it in the end and they gave her some antibiotics, they have helped, as it was diagnosed as bacterial not viral. Maybe just go to the GP and explain your worries. I am also a ftm and worry that I'm being over cautious but every time we have taken her (twice) we have been reassured that we did the right thing and haven't wasted the nhs staffs time :) hope your little one feels better soon x

What Navy probably meant by plenty of wet nappies is; is she having at least six wet ones over a 24 hour period? If she's drinking less and producing less wet nappies she might be at risk of dehydration.

Ihavealwaysknown · 31/01/2019 19:41

I wouldn’t say 6 wet nappies, she’s very grouchy so leaving ever more to getting her booked in in the morning. My issue is she always seems a bit better in the morning, come the evening/nighttime we are peak snuffles 🙈
