To start a midwifery degree with small children?

As title really! :)
Are there any midwifery students here? How hard is it really? How full on? Like worse than a full time job or not as bad?

I have three children under 7. Feeling v guilty about leaving them :(

Would really appreciate any views! Thank you.

My understanding is that it is all going to caseloading, correct me if I'm wrong. If that's the case, you'll work crazy, crazy hours across each and every month. Good luck op, I really hope you are sucessful in your training and future career.

Congratulations on your place.

I've been qualified 5 years. My DC were 4 and 6 when I started my training.

It is possible with robust childcare (think plan A, B & C) and an au pair might well be a very good option for you especially with the move towards case-loading (continuity of career) as students will be expected to work alongside their mentors if they work in this way.

You will need to prioritise the degree to get through and will miss out on family/DC stuff but there is no beating the sense of achievement you will feel when you've finally qualified.

Had friends do it and in the nicest way you are crazy and it will be really challenging but people do it with small kids and so can you. In many ways teenagers need parents attention more than toddlers and go to bed much later which makes things really tricky when you need them asleep so you can study so there’s no good age Don’t let the kids age stop you. Once you get past the first year it will fly by, good luck!
