Where to live outside of London

Hi,

I am really hopping to get some help from here so please don't don't hesitate if you have any advice!

As a non British family we find it very hard to integrate where we are now, we suffer a lot from being lonely and feeling not welcome.

I ve got 3 boys (11, 8 and 6 years old) and would love to live in a multicultural area outside of london. my husband works in central london near Liverpool street so would need easy access. We are French/Moroccan family and being in a multicultural area is very important to us. we can stretch to £550 000 for a 4 bed house which i know isnt much! good schools are a must! I hope someone will be able to help.
Thank you in advance,
x

Cambridge is pretty multicultural and on the Liverpool street line. Housing not at all cheap, but do-able on your budget if you don't need a big house. Look round the Mill Rd area, which is close to the station and very vibrant.

550k for a 4 bed is quite a lot in most UK cities! However, it sounds like you would need to be in commuting distance of London? If so that's going to narrow options. If you would consider living in areas further away and him perhaps stay in London during the week then do some wfh a couple of days, that would open up a lot of multicultural cities where 550k is a very healthy budget.

Schools are also generally good!

Canterbury?

Catsick36 · 31/01/2019 14:11

Medway for all it's faults. There are many. Is diverse. You wouldn't be lonely. Good commute to london, 40 mins or so from chatham station. You could get a lot of property for 550k.

When we were looking to move out of London we combined looking on www.commutefrom.com and rightmove.co.uk.

Commute From shows you train lines into London and for each stop, the journey time, price etc. Then you can take a look on rightmove at house prices etc.

Have you considered St Albans or Letchworth Garden city.

Both good commutes.

Good luck!

Colchester is 45 minutes from Liverpool Street and a lovely town . We have fairly good schools and it's very multi cultural. My son is in year 5 and there is a live mix of nationalities in his year along with the whole school . House prices are very reasonable and you can get a 5 B house for around 350k

bert3400 · 31/01/2019 18:00

*lovely mix in his year 😁

Milton Keynes, everyone comes from all over, very multi cultural, you can be in Euston in half an hour from MK station, good schools, lots of work, you can get a nice 4 bed for £550k

OrigamiZoo · 31/01/2019 18:17

Luton? I don't live there but it has a mixed population.

Figmentofmyimagination · 31/01/2019 19:13

Bedford! Good connections to London. Good cultural mix. Good schools. Nice river. What’s not to like. And it’s a good time to buy as we’ve just heard that we are definitely going to be on the new Cambridge to Oxford train link!
