Doctor won't give me diazepam ..aibu?

I've been getting diazepam off my doctor for around 4 years now for when I have to travel by plane.
I normally get 7 tablets a year.
My doctor has retired now and I'm travelling to Australia in may to see my aunt and uncle.
I've just got out of the doctors (new doc) and he refused any.
Now I understand people get addictive but I get 7 tablets a year!
I have a massive fear of flying,I've tried CBT,hypnotherapy, kalms,I did a fear of flying course and nothing.
Before I was prescribed diazepam I didn't go on holiday for 7 years.
They gave me my life back (without being dramatic)
Aibu to speak to the practice manager?

Wow I'm shocked this thread has caused so much controversy
I guess the world would be a boring place if we all shared the Same views.
But I will add ...diazepam deffo isn't banned by aviation authority (my friend works for BA)

Try ERPD, my mum had a phobia of moths, full on night terrors regarding them etc, she had this and no longer has the phobia! X

Tequilamockinbird · 02/02/2019 13:46

@TaimaandRanyasBestFriend I know. But if Faz is a pilot who takes diazepam, that would definitely set the cat amongst the pigeons Grin

SusanneLinder · 02/02/2019 13:51

The only thing I'd be concerned about is if you are transitting through Dubai. Diazepam is on their banned list of drugs, so I would check before you arrive. I know loads of travellers go there with prescription meds, but better safe than sorry. Half of DH's meds are on their banned list, and we were advised we needed to get permission from Ministry of Health in UAE. Decided not to travel.

littlecloudling · 02/02/2019 14:00

@lucyhar sounds like you'd be on more danger getting on a plane if you have taken it.

Tistheseason17 · 02/02/2019 16:21

I actually have a ongoing anxiety disorder not just a little phobia of spiders

OP, your prev posts say you have been successful treated for your ongoing general anxiety with CBT etc.

You want meds that you want for a return flight- 2 single episodes related to phobia which diazepam should not be used for.

But, hey, as others have said, you're pretty entitled and you got what you wanted. I can only imagine what you said to get your own way and go against proper clinical advice.

Toys And pram spring to mind.

exWifebeginsat40 · 02/02/2019 17:07

blimey.

my repeat script has diazepam, zopiclone, mirtazapine, pregablin, quetiapine and opiate patches, amongst various other things.

i’m not a drug addict. i’m a middle-aged lady with shit physical and mental health. although, after reading this thread i might see how many trams i have left over and get those fuckers on Gumtree.

happy holidays, OP!

swingofthings · 02/02/2019 17:11

You can travel to Dubai with prescribed valium without any problem, another scaremongering misconception.

MinniesMum1606 · 02/02/2019 17:17

Doctors have turned funny about giving out Valium these days and people that have been on them for ages were taken off just like that, it’s no wonder some people turn to drug dealers to get them and they end up buying dodgy ones, they are the best thing for anxiety and yet you just don’t get them. It’s actually the doctors faults in the first place that people get addicted to prescription Valium and then to just whip them off them just like that is not right, I think they are physically addictive, when my cousin was taken off of them she was ill for about 2 weeks, she was practically tearing her hair out and what really annoyed her, was that she wasn’t keen on getting them in the first place and it was the doctor that spoke her into it, and then he took them away when it no longer suited him to give them out! Why are they still being made of nobody is to get them?

Tara336 · 02/02/2019 17:18

I have to have an MRI every year, I suffer from claustrophobia and have no trouble getting a prescription of diazepam to get me through.

MinniesMum1606 · 02/02/2019 17:20

OP I’m not sure where you said you were going on holiday but I’ve had them abroad before, you have to pay but it’s a small price to pay for your anxiety, this doesn’t help you getting there though.

MinniesMum1606 · 02/02/2019 17:21

exWife can you get Valium on gumtree?

MinniesMum1606 · 02/02/2019 17:22

OP just to let you know that you can buy Valium online from UKSleepingpills.com, I’m not sure if they’re real though as I have never used them but the reviews were good, only problem is that you have to buy them in larger batches.

sueelleker · 02/02/2019 17:52

I agree with you, Minniesmum1606; back in the 70's my Mum was given repeat prescriptions of Librium (chlordiazepoxide) for menopausal symptoms. It took her years to get off them.

Smotheroffive · 02/02/2019 18:02

Tara you are aware your MRI and OP boarding a flight are poles apart though right, so gp wouldn't have any reason to restrict for someone having an MRI?

Smotheroffive · 02/02/2019 18:06

I think its actually so ridiculous as to be hilarious pp playing fast and loose with powerful highly addictive drugs, that affect ability to function.

Yeah, take what you like when you like, get them from wherever you want, have no idea what you are doing, buy them from strangers, all very sound advice Grin

Smotheroffive · 02/02/2019 18:10

...them but the reviews were good Minnie's I honestly believe you don't realise how ridiculous and dangerous that stupid comment is. Horrifying the lack of respect for these drugs, completely ignorant.

MinniesMum1606 · 02/02/2019 18:13

Well the OP is an adult and she can make up her own mind, I’m not forcing her to buy them and as she only wants a few then I really doubt that she’ll buy them from UKSP as you must buy them in batches, for like £60 at the minimum, I haven’t even bought them and I take Valium from time to time.

It was only a suggestion, nobody is expected to follow it.

mummymayhem18 · 02/02/2019 18:22

I've been prescribed diazepam a couple of times over the years for travelling. Hope you get sorted.

Smotheroffive · 02/02/2019 18:32

Nope sorry, still dangerous advice, unless you are a pharmacist and know what you're talking ng about of course.

Have you not ever considered why you can't just ask a pharmacist for certain drugs, or why a doctor would deny? Do you think that just means they are being pissy and mean, so it means you go off and buy them off some unlicensed stranger off the web! As for advocating others do it! Ifyou want to be wreckless that's up to you but to recommend wreckless behaviour to others?!

Seline · 02/02/2019 18:34

2mg of occasional diazepam is in no way addictive lol.

TaimaandRanyasBestFriend · 02/02/2019 18:45

Yes, OP, listen to the wise MNers, you take this diazepam and your next thread will be about how you are using 3 bags of smack a day. I can see it now! Maybe you'll even get a DM headline out of it, 'How 2mg Of Diazepam Became The New Gateway Drug' and you can make one of those tragic faces for the cameras. 'I was only flying to Oz. I didn't listen to the MNer and now here I am, either on the streets scorin' or in jail for chorin'

Smotheroffive · 02/02/2019 18:48

Its a controlled drug for a reason, you can take the piss all you like, but you don't control the drugs but think you know best. Okeydokey.

Seline · 02/02/2019 18:54

I take a controlled drug every day. Used in the correct circumstances controlled drugs are safe. This scaremongering is so stupid.

dahliaaa · 02/02/2019 18:59

Diazepam/Valium prescribed on a long term basis can be a dangerous, life destroying drug.

Small doses of Diazepam/Valium used sparingly and cautiously once in a blue moon can be extremely effective.
