Do you ever eat cake/pizza? Im trying to lose weight and stop binge eating, but the thought that even if i become slimmer, will it mean i can never eat cake?

I really enjoy cake/pizza/pasta and would rather be a size 14 and eat these things once a week or so than be a size 8 or 10 and never get to eat them.

Interested to read your experiences☺

I’m 8stone and 5ft 6.
The only way I achieve it is by eating less than 800 calories a day but I don’t get much time for exercise. Maybe if I had more time for exercise I could eat more.
I’m certainly still not very toned and don’t look particularly slim.

Terramirabilis · 31/01/2019 17:48

I'm just about back to a size 10 after baby and looking to lose about 10 lbs more. I am counting every calorie right now in order to lose. I exercise HIIT 5 times a week. I'm not drinking alcohol (although I'm only ever a very occasional drinker so this is no real hardship) and my treat is a small piece of chocolate everyday. I'm eating lowish carbs, higher fat and protein as I find that helps me feel fuller and stave off cravings. Ultimately, I want to be thin more than I want cake, but I wouldn't say it comes naturally.

ragged · 31/01/2019 17:48

My parents were plump. My brothers are mostly plump. Most of are relatives are pudgy if not fat. But I am trim. I think it's all lifestyle and genetics only matters for a quite small %.

I eat what I want... but the portions are moderate or small, and lots of veg/fruit/whole grain. I don't eat if I'm not hungry. Eating is foul if you're not hungry.

My children made me hate pizza & never a huge cake fan. Nutella is nice, though :).

ragged · 31/01/2019 17:49

ps: I have sedentary job but exercise a lot compared to most ppl. I like exercise. For my mental health not for my body size.

Kikipost · 31/01/2019 17:50

@thatmustbenigelwiththebrie

I eat shit loads of food and am very thin. I do not know why. I am sure my metabolism will slow down as I get older (I am 38), sometimes I wonder if I have worms because I seem to eat so much crap and get away with it.

I remember you from a previous thread. You say you’re “addicted” to exercise and get up at 5am to train.

Could have something to do with your slimness, don’t you think?!

VietnameseCrispyFish · 31/01/2019 17:51

I’m certainly still not very toned and don’t look particularly slim.

I 100% bet you do.

Is it healthy to eat 800 calories per day? 1000 is considered the bare minimum for women who are wanting to lose weight.

At 5ft 9 weighing 9st 7 I was incredibly thin. You’re a stone and a half lighter at only three inches shorter. I mean this kindly, but do you have a positive relationship with food and your body?

halfwitpicker · 31/01/2019 17:58

I eat shit loads of food and am very thin.

^

I can guarantee that your shit loads is different to mine

Cheekysquirrel · 31/01/2019 18:01

My arms and stomach are not toned - middle age spread and two babies I think.
I hate my body. I’m disgusted when I look at it to be honest.

Lovelyflowerstoday · 31/01/2019 18:06

Cheeky I'm 8st and 5ft 4" and am far too thin looking, you cannot not look slim at the same weight but 2" taller surely?

Lovelyflowerstoday · 31/01/2019 18:08

Cheeky just read that you exist on 800 calories per day, that is absolutely not healthy and why do you hate the way you look? Doesn't sound good all put together?

PloddingOnwards · 31/01/2019 18:08

I'm I guess genetically slim because I can stuff my face and don't gain easily however I only stuff my face when I'm due on I call it my eat like a freak week.
I don't like pasta it gives me a stomach ache, not a fan of cake either.
I do however have a bar of dark chocolate every night.
I drink tea all day, have a dinner and chocolate so I don't eat a lot defo not three meals a day with snacks anyway. I do the school run if that counts as exercise.
So isit hard to stay slim ... in my case yes. Just don't eat if your not hungry and if you do feel like giving in have a glass of water x

PloddingOnwards · 31/01/2019 18:10

In my case no even Brew

Sniv · 31/01/2019 18:11

I'm slim and don't eat cake, pasta, pizza very much. However, I haven't eaten those things regularly for years and years and so I don't expect them and I don't miss them. I really enjoy the diet I have - even though on paper it's quite restrictive in some ways, it just seems normal to me. Cake is for birthdays and celebrations and that's OK.

Saladcreamie · 31/01/2019 18:13

I don’t think it’s work hard more “make mindful choices”?

It’s a bit like study or money - if you’re “good” at academic stuff or money management it’s not necessarily sweating blood but just knowing what to focus on and when to “lean in” and after a while it becomes second nature? Take effort to become effortless.

Eg I was “out out” a few night ago and had wine, pudding, sweets at the cinema - this is normal for me and I’m a lifelong 8. So I could give you that as “proof” I’ve got some amazing metabolism.

But if you look at my food day or the actual calorie quantities I ate it’s completely different to what’s written down? I mainly (only?) had coffee and water in the day (NOT that I’m ever dieting but I just don’t have a big appetite when I’m working hard - hate breakfast and with dinner at 6pm didn’t want lunch).

I left 1/3 of my main course (it was lovely but too much) and had some salad. No bread. Pudding was unsweetened berries with a dash of chocolate sauce. “Wine” was one small glass. I enjoyed it all.

I wasn’t consciously dieting, I just was more focussed on the social aspects of the night? But I suppose that was a pretty low calorie day. Couple of those a week and that all adds up (or doesn’t).

I’ve noticed when I socialise with heavier people they do tend to get more rigid about food/overthink it//get stressed if they get hungry more than me?

Cheekysquirrel · 31/01/2019 18:16

I suppose I just feel I’m really very ugly.
My body has done me no favours and has failed me in a lot of ways so I don’t have much respect for it.
I’m not suggesting it’s a healthy way to live but it is the only way I stay relatively slim.

Oopsusernamealreadytaken · 31/01/2019 18:19

Size 8-10 here, fairly active though and eat those things as a treat not daily or weekly. I eat fairly healthy the vast majority of the time

I hate it when people assume I can eat what I want and that I’m just lucky. It’s not the case, I gain easily.

Momdeguerre · 31/01/2019 18:20

I do think there can be a cost with being able to 'work hard' at being slim too. I work full time but I have a gym membership, do other classes that cost 5/6 quid per session each week and my food is all delivered prepped for me from an online place. It's probably a work hard/pay hard deal for me to be able to be the size I want to be.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 31/01/2019 18:34

No I don't work hard at being slim and yes I do eat cake but while DH would eat the whole cake I'm fine with having a small slice. I like it sometimes but I'm not keen Ron too much sweet stuff.

I don't eat pizza as I can't have dairy although I'll have vegan pizza once in a blue moon and yes I eat pasta but prefer wholewheat and obviously dogs have it with cheese Smile

Lovelyflowerstoday · 31/01/2019 19:20

cheeky that's really sad that you feel that way, I bet your body is miraculous in many ways though SmileFlowers

Cantusethatname · 31/01/2019 19:20

I do eat cake most days because I like cake, pizza when I want to, and sometimes pasta but I don't like it much.

feelingverylazytoday · 31/01/2019 19:42

I have to work very hard to just be a normal weight, never mind slim.
As far as eating cakes goes, because it's just me who eats cakes (or most of the time), I tend to buy individual cakes either from Greggs or somewhere like Lidl. If I buy a packet of cakes I will eat the whole lot, usually in an hour one day. The other day I ate a whole packet of rich tea fingers in one evening. Luckily I'm pretty active though, walking 5 - 10 miles a day and an hours swim most days, so I can work the odd pigout off. On the whole though, I try not to buy crap like crisps and sweets and I don't like things like pizzas, takeaways or Mcdonalds, so not tempted there.

chordFire · 31/01/2019 19:46

I've always been slim. Been the same weight for about 20 years. I can tell what my body needs and can tell the difference between what the body needs and the mind wants.

I don't have a sweet tooth but can plough through a multipack of crisps in an evening sonI rarely buy them.

I'd advise either learning to listen to your body or doing loads of weights - people with more muscle burn way way way more calories than the limp limbed like myself!

Tigger001 · 31/01/2019 20:29

I am thin but have never really "worked" at being thin, I eat far too much cake and chocolate but I never stop, I'm always on the go. I have however tried to be more healthy now I have DC, I had a very high pressured job before so probably had blood pressure through the roof, hardly any sleep and ate whenever I had 5 mins.

I think if you eat in moderation it's better than having forbidden foods, what a life if you can't have a bit of cake when you fancy it !!! I think as well some people see thin and think healthy which is not necessarily true. I would prefer to have my cake and chocolate and try and work it off rather than not having it, life's too short.

The general advice our GPs give now is eat like a king at breakfast, a Prince at lunch and a pauper in the evening.

MrsJBaptiste · 31/01/2019 20:39

I don't eat the obvious carbs - pasta, rice, bread, etc. - but do have the odd cake. I'd give all treats up to drink wine though which I do and probably too much off it at the weekend!

I love cake, biscuits, pasta and pizza but I like looking slim more so don't eat them and go to gym for 10 hours a week instead.

Wishiwasonholiday1 · 31/01/2019 20:45

I'm 8-10, I mainly eat healthily, cook from scratch etc but also don't deny myself something sweet when I feel like it but I'm more a savoury than sweet person. I go to the gym 2-3 times a week too.
