To ask if an ANP is appropriate for this?

Hello all...I have n/c for this...

I have some lumps in my armpit. I was hoping they'd just go away and stupidly left it for a couple of months, but they haven't gone away so have been plucking up the courage for a few weeks to see a GP about this. I get very embarrassed seeing a GP but decided to go for it today.

I have been given an appointment this morning with an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. I asked if that was appropriate given the condition and the fact there is a chance I may need a two week wait referral.

The receptionist was insistent that it was the correct clinician for me.

I thought that ANPs were there largely for minor ailments. I understand that for many of them this under utilises their considerable skills, but I have no idea if they can do a 2WW.

Am I wasting my time and theirs (taking time off work for this), or is this appropriate?

Thanks.

In my experience a ANP would get a doctor to look there and then if they are concerned or it is outside their competence.

The ANP at my GP surgery was able to refer me to breast clinic under a 2ww. In fact I'm sure she was more cautious than a GP would have been anyway and I was happy to be referred just in case.

Thanks both! Feel better now.

I don't even bother asking for a GP appt anymore! I just get one with the nurse practitioner and she brings a doctor in if it's out of her remit!

Thanks valentino.
