To not want to make reusable nappies?

I know IANBU and DH is abusive, but this actually made me laugh.

I was changing 5-week-old DD's nappy this morning when DH started ranting that I should use cloth nappies.

I pointed out that they are not cheap initially and that since this is our last child, it probably would not be cost-effective (I did not mention the fact that since I am in sole charge of the laundry, he expects me to do the extra work).

He told me that there is no way we are buying reusable nappies - he expects me to make them from old clothes.

He was not happy with my reaction, called me a "spoilt Westerner" who does not care about the planet.
He then left our oil-heated house to go to work in our diesel car.

Fuck sake. Leave him!

Apple103 · 31/01/2019 08:42

Yanbu. Why doesnt he make them if hes so concerned. FWIW i tried it, it was a massive amount of faff and work and we went back to disposables.

Dump him. You've admitted he is abusive.

What a tosser. Remove the toilet paper before he goes. Tell him to wipe his arse on old rags.

NettleTea · 31/01/2019 08:46

FFS I used cloth nappies and I actually had a small business making cloth nappies, but making them so that they fit and work isnt easy, and many old clothes would be unsuitable anyway.
What did you use for previous, and why has he suddenly got a bee in his bonnet about it?
Its your choice.. If you want to be a bit more eco there are brands out there that are less harmful
if you want to buy cloth there is a market in secondhand that means they are not as expensive and can be sold on, but they take some experimentation to find what works for you and so in that respect you need to be quite committed to it
But as you are doing the bulk, its your choice here.
His remarks are unhelpful, impractical and downright stupid

The toilet paper is a great idea!
