To ask for your healthy late evening snack ideas

So I've piled on the pounds since DS was born and I really need to cut back. My biggest problem is the evening snack. Wine, biscuits or crisps or nachos or whatever whislt watching abit of telly 😋 I just can't maintain that anymore. So what are your suggestions as an alternative? It would be nice to have something as DH has no intention of stopping.

I agree, try not to eat after dinner. Sounds bloody hard but make sure your dinner is yummy and filling, maybe have some fruit, then just stop. You'll get used to it. I've had great successon the NoS diet which is basically no snacking at all on week days. Its weird to start with but its all about forming good habits.

Savoury popcorn is good if you are wanting crisps, but like others have said, you're better just stopping the snacking completely. I have and I don't want it anymore. Alcohol is for Fridays and Saturdays only in this house. It's empty calories and I've switched to measured spirits and light tonic instead of wine.

I have a highlights hot chocolate every night, and usually a bowl of a few nuts, a few blueberries or grapes and some 85% dark chocolate. I've worked my way up from 70% cocoa. Sometimes I have something else, like a sugar free jelly or some vegetable sticks and dip. Tonight I had a big dinner including pudding so I just had the hot chocolate. I understand what others are saying about cutting out snacks but I'm trying not to feel like I'm depriving myself. I've lost several stone so it obviously isn't doing me any harm.

We moved dinner later. Snack of cuppa and fruit with dcs eating their "tea" at4.30/5, then wait til 8pm for meal. Watch a box set with it. Bath or shower straight after then bed.

There is nothing wrong with snacking, as long as you burn more calories than you eat. You can calculate your daily calorie need (called basal metabolic rate) & then minus 20% to get your daily calorie allowance for weight loss. If you eat high protein, so omelette for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch, spaghetti bolognese for dinner made with 5% fat mince, you'd have some calories left for an afternoon & evening snack. Not everyone can stick to 3 meals a day & that's ok, there is no need to go hungry if you've not eaten all your calories. To lose 1lb of fat a week you need a weekly calorie deficit of 3500 calories Smile

Sorry OP, mindless snacking in front of the TV is the worst type as you are constantly occupied and not thinking about what your eating. So even if you had lots of healthy things, your mind would not register as full.
Agree with others it's maybe the other parts of your diet that are doing the damage. There is no reason you can't have a glass of wine and a small packet of crisps of an evening. Just not a family sized bag and half a bottle!
Try adding soda/ice to your wine and use a measure. (You'll cut the calories in half) 125ml wine same in soda = large glass of wine with half the calories)
Air popped pop corn with truffle salt is good too. (Just watch the portions)
It's amazing how hummus, healthy nut mix, olives (in oil) can really ramp up those calories. Trust me, I'm obsessed......

Is your evening meal filling you up properly? There are loads of things you can have that won't pile on the pounds, but fill you up, like extra veg., a large salad, some fruit and a few unsalted nuts for afters. Though it sounds more as though you are eating through boredom rather than hunger. Doing a handcraft could help. I am also a gum chewer, which stops me snacking at all in the evening.
The other thing is not to have this stuff in the house in the first place, but I appreciate that is difficult if you have children.
