Gristle, anyone?

Just curious to know - do you eat the gristle when you eat a chicken leg, for example.

Im sat here next to DP who seems to think it's the done thing and everybody does it (I know for a fact his mum does it), I on the other hand think it's disgusting and is not supposed to be eaten.

This is not reserved for chicken gristle - he even eats the ends on spare ribs. Makes me feel sick listening to him crunching away on it 😷

Aibu to think this is not normal and he should stop this revolting habit?

I hate gristle but I do like fat - it's got all the flavour! It's got to be crispy though, I can't stand the texture of flabby fat.

If I'm in the mood for a bit of a crunch I'll eat it,if not the dog gets lucky. I find it more revolting if a person leaves half the meat on the bone than someone enjoying a bit of gristle.

I don't like gristle.
Doesn't put me off the rest of the meat though, I just pick it out.
I've never minded the fatty bits though, especially the fat rim on a gammon steak. I'll also eat roast chicken skin. Yummy.
My eldest doesn't like any fat on his meat. I do have to make sure I've removed as much as I can or he won't eat a thing.

I also like pork scratchings.
Everyone else in my family hates them so I don't have to share. Just the same with crackling on roast pork.

Gristle, fat, skin, bones, are all reasons I stopped eating most meat except fish.

I hate gristle and find it foul but each to their own. I think the skin on a rice pudding is creepy but others love it.

A West African friend always enjoyed chicken bones. He had lovely teeth!

I'll eat prawn tails YES YES! But big NO NO to gristle. I hardly eat any meat for fear of chewing on a piece of gristle by accident. Totally ridiculous but it makes me feel sick. DH on the other hand loves a bit of fat/gristle. Ick!

I'm mainly veggie and the more towards veggie I go, the weirder I find it eating fish and meat. I can't bear gristly and peculiar bits and gave up roasting whole chickens because it made me feel ill dealing with it afterwards.

I was once in a poncy french restaurant though, and on the menu was "Bone with its marrow" . We saw someone getting it, he was just sat there tucking into a bone on a plate, in a small pool of sauce.

OMG I love the gristle!! It’s the best bit of the chicken. I am often seen picking over the carcass of a roast chicken hunting for gristle. I think it’s the crunchy sensation I like.

Oh and DT2 eats the heads of prawns as well as the tails.

Meat is the only thing I am really fussy about. I do not eat gristle, cartilage, nasty bits of muscle fascia/sinew/connective tissue, skin, fat, slimy bits, none of that shit. I only eat lean meat with no interruptions in it. I pick apart bacon sarnies and forensically remove anything that isn't perfect lean meat.

DH will eat the lot, the dirty get. Apart from bone marrow. Even he won't eat bone marrow.

gristly bits off the end of drumsticks and either end of the bone of the drumstick I like the cartilidge and marrow.

I don't crunch the main bone of drumsticks because they shatter into splinters.

What can I say? I like getting my money's worth. greedy bugger
