DS with itchy bites.

3yo came home from nursery and started scratching his back at dinnertime. Took his top off to reveal a back full of clusters of what appears to be red bumpy bites. Pic attached.

I have put some cream on it for now and it seems to have stopped the itching and I will be monitoring it tonight to make sure he doesn't look like he's been in a brawl with a tiger in the morning but I'm concerned as to where they came from.

I have another LO who stays at home with me and he doesn't have any bites despite both their clothes being stored in the same wardrobe side by side. We have a dog but she is regularly treated, doesn't scratch himself and sleeps in our bed at night so we would be the first ones to get any unwanted bites.

Could these have been brought from nursery? They have a large bucket type container where all the kids bring and put their puddle suits and snow suits in for the days they are scheduled to go outside and today was one of those days.

Where could they have come from? Do I bring it up with nursery tomorrow? Do I even take him in?

Any advice would be great.

There's even 3 bites on his wrist.

Can't see your pic but are you sure it's bites and not chickenpox? Or an allergic reaction?

Susceptibility to flea bites varies from person to person, so it isn't always the person with most contact who becomes aware of the bites. I'm the only one in our house who is aware of flea bite, but I'm sure I can't be the only person bitten.

I can't see your pic but I would suspect chickenpox, I thought my DD had been bitten to death at first when she got it.

sadkoala · 30/01/2019 19:24

Posting pics again. It doesn't look like chicken pox to me as they seem too big.

Looks like an allergic reaction in the photos. Can you actually see puncture marks (from
bites)?

teabag20048 · 30/01/2019 19:50

Have you tried an antihstamine? It looks similar to urticaria to me which is an allergic reaction.

sadkoala · 30/01/2019 22:45

They seemed fine when he went to bed. What could it be a reaction to? It's just random places.

He's got about 5-6 on his lower back. 3 a bit higher up to the side of his back and 2 on his side closer to his belly and another 3-4 on his shoulder blade.
The ones on his hand are only in the area in the picture.

Have they got puncture marks or obvious centres? If they have they are likely bites, if not they may be an allergic reaction.

I'm tasty to insects and I have had the odd bite at this time of year before. Groupings could be consistent with something getting trapped in sheets or clothing and biting. May or may not be fleas. Don't let him scratch them open, especially if they're bites. I've also had flea bites before when I've not been up close with animals but they've been in the vicinity. So it may not be from your pet, if that's what they are .

I don't know if this is the case but as a child my skin used to react exactly this way whenever I had an infection, ear infections mostly. Never found out why? Are these spots the only symptom OP?

SpringForEver · 30/01/2019 23:06

They look too big to be flea bites, more like mosquito and they are often in groups.

steppemum · 30/01/2019 23:10

dd gets bites like this.
She is the only one who gets them 9she always get s mossy botes in the summer too)
She will get them over a period of a week or two, and then I will deflea the dog, and spray her room and she will be fine.
There are 5 of us, and she is the only one to get them, and both dog and cat are regularly fleaed.

I am taking him to see the GP today. He's not itching today but he's got 2 more on his hand.

I've brushed the dog out and gave her a bath and checked all over but there's no fleas in sight. I've washed all his bedding including duvet and I washed all the clothes he had on yesterday as soon as we got home.

2 on his had have gone a little yellowy which I'm worried about.

They went outside at nursery yesterday for outdoor play, is it possible something went down his collar and got trapped hence the possible birds?

He did say his top hurt him but I assumed it was because it was a knitted type jumper and was rubbing on them .
