Ad libbing

At work, voluntary organisation, I often find myself in an informal chairing type situation - taking comments from individuals (not always serious comments) and then needing to move on to the next person for their comments.

AIBU to think I need to be able to ad lib between comments rather than simply saying, 'Your turn' to the next person. If so, how do I ad lib?

what, you mean like "right, thanks very much for that comment - we've not got much time, so I'd like to turn to the next person to say a few words. Mary Smith, what's your take on this issue?"

MariaWaria · 30/01/2019 16:45

Sort of Rose but I don't want to be dismissive or abrupt, yet need something to say between comments. I suppose a more kindly, generous version of what you've suggested is what's needed. And I don't want to say the same thing each time, so need several variations.

'Thanks for that. X. Y, what is your take on this?'

'Ok, let's hear from someone else on this issue -- X?'

'Good to have your view, X. Now -- Y...?'

How about

'Yes that's an important issue, I'm sure we will be re-visiting it again'

'Thanks for all your input on that - moving on to Item 5'

'Lets summarise our action points before moving on'

'I think we may have strayed slightly off topic, but it's always useful to have a full discussion'

Thank you for your input here, I see a lot of nods round the table, lets take an action to move that forward.

Thanks ever so much, that's a great overview.

That was really useful, thank you - good to see a different perspective.

Etc etc

Thank you all. I know this sort of thing probably seems obvious to you but, unfortunately, it's not for me.
