For me, the pleasure of reading Mumsnet is spending time reading through threads that interest me. Yes, sometimes I skip through v long or repetitive ones, but I always read all OP messages - why wouldn't I? when I am interested in a thread, I am interested in actual updates or any clarifications.

I also don't post when I find a topic has really been thrashed out. I know I have nothing different to add, so I don't post. Unless I do have something different to add, or where I feel OP is getting an unfair deal.

I am not trying to be thread police - post what you like, I'll still read it Grin but I just don't get it. It ruins the enjoyment for me of actually interacting. Am I doing it wrong, or AIBU?

Scratch that, go to talk, the page has the title Talk and a downwards arrow, click on customise.

On a long one, I'll tend to read the first page then jump to the last few to see if it's a repeat of the same old posts or if it's developed in a different direction. Sometimes you can get a 15+ page thread where there's only 3 or 4 updates by OP, so that's potentially a lot of waffle.

I've seen so many threads where OP has started with something fairly innocuous on the surface, then it turned out to be a symptom of something quite major within a few pages, you'll get 20 pages of OP realising they are in a seriously abusive relationship and getting their plans in order, then every few posts some ignoramus who didn't go further than the first post telling them how unreasonable they are!

Done that, still nothing under customise that works!

Fatasfook · 30/01/2019 13:36

Missmouse, same here, maybe it doesn’t work from a mobile, only laptop

I'm on a tablet, but you could be right! I'll try from my PC later. I do hope I can suss it out!

You mean you actually thought it a good use of your time to start a thread about this and yet, bizarrely, I used my time to open the exact same thread, read it AND comment on it! Grin

YANBU - some people just like the sound of their own typed-words (if that makes any sense?!)

thecatsthecats · 30/01/2019 14:03

I find if I haven't commented within the first two pages, then everything will have been said already.

However... I still tend to think a good hundred responses is best for a decent YABU/YANBU judgement.

Makes me laugh when you see four people reply agreeing and the OP says 'well thank goodness you all agree with me!'. Clearly just there for affirmation.
