To ask what NASS festival is like?

Dd16 is going to Reading festival this year (I’ve just wrapped my head around this) and has now asked me if she can go to nass festival with her friends (she’d be paying- money if from babysitting). I haven’t heard anything about it- some quick googling says it’s much smaller than reading but do any of you know more about it? I’m aware that I can’t really do much to stop her going but I’d like to know more about it anyway.

Honestly? It's a bit of a mess. Feels less like a festival and more a 4 day rave, I don't know if it's changed but a few years ago it was pretty renowned as a festival just to get supremely fucked up at.

NellyandKelly · 29/01/2019 22:44

Pretty sure it’s a tiny Drum & Bass festival that’s nothing like Reading in the slightest. A few friends of friends go to NASS and I always see photos.

It’s definitely not to my taste. Just reminds me of People Just Do Nothing if you’ve ever seen that? If not, watch that, you’ll soon get the idea.

I’ve just read your DD is 16... in all honesty, I would not want my 16y/o going to NASS. A lot of eyes as wide as saucers there.

Oh no- I looked at the lineup and it seemed to be what teens are interested in so I’d have thought there would be many of my dd’s age. Not keen on the idea of her having a rave up with people 3 times as old as her

My daughter tells me that ALL of her friends are going. She's 16 too. I'm not happy about any of it but it seems to be an "after GCSEs" thing - so my friends with older children who have been tell me.....

sleepwhenidie · 30/01/2019 11:23

DH ran festivals until v recently so knows most very well - Reading is the last festival he would want DC’s going to as teens, NASS I think he’d be slightly more relaxed about, agree with Heidi re age groups!

sweeneytoddsrazor · 30/01/2019 11:36

Naas is very much a younger persons festival. As with any festival there is plenty of mdma and similar available.

Heidinotinthehills · 30/01/2019 18:11

Okay second batch of comments are better- of course I don’t actively want to send my dd into a field of drugs but I guess part of being a parent is spending 3 days hoping your child is alive Blush

DS (16) went to Nass last year - post GCSE, first ever festival. He's reasonably sensible but has been known to do stupid things on occasion so was pretty worried.

He loves that type of music.

Went with friends, had a great time, managed to avoid drugs as far as I know and came home exhausted but with all possessions.

I picked him up and the place looked like some kind of post apocalyptic desert populated by zombie teens. Quick search of the local press did not reveal any heinious crimes.

teenmum65 · 30/01/2019 18:33

Heidi - I was pretty stressed about the whole thing especially after some kids had died at a festival only a few weeks before. I did have a long talk with him about being sensible about drugs. Then I also spent ages worrying he was going to get sunstroke as it was one of the hottest days of the year. Maybe it's a parent's rite of passage.

The main thing that gave me comfort for no good reason really was that it was at Bath & West Showground which normally hosts horse shows and the like Grin

PinguDance · 30/01/2019 18:49

It’s fun cos of all the skate stuff and there’s bmx guys to ogle etc. It used to have a proper West Country crusty vibe - drugs, Diablos and white teenagers with dreadlocks - but this intel is all about 5 yrs out of date by now. I wouldn’t consider it to be much worse than reading.

malificent7 · 30/01/2019 18:52

I wish i'd gone as a teen....i like srum and bass. Will prob be fine. All festivals are full of drugs...your dd just has to use self control and common sense.

malificent7 · 30/01/2019 18:52

Drum and bass sorry....

BarryTheKestrel · 30/01/2019 18:58

I've been to both reading and Nass both as a 16/17 year old and working them in my mid twenties (last one was 3 years ago). Both aren't great for drugs but if your kid isn't easily led into drugs then I'd rather any 16 year old I know to go to Nass as a first festival rather than reading. It's smaller and much tamer. Reading is huge and can be really intimidating. If she copes with NASS ok, it's a good way to get into the festival swing for reading.
