Hi all, I've name changed for this. And I'm also posting here for traffic (I hope you don't mind).

I constantly get thrush. It's been going on years. I have been to the GP about it being so recurrent and they just prescribe high dosages of the treatment which works and then it comes back eventually 😩

It's as if it's always there although mild and without symptoms at times. Then something like having sex or wearing tights will cause all the symptoms to begin again.

Has anyone been through this and found a way to stop it somehow?

I'm desperate and really hoping you guys can help 🙏🏼

Boric acid suppositories work better than anything else (they make the pH uninhabitable for the bad organisms). It's all you'll need, if you use them.

WishIwas19again · 30/01/2019 06:02

I had recurrent thrush for years. My doctor finally prescribed me a 6 week course of tablets (like caneStan). I took one every other day to start, then it was a phased process of taking the tablets over the next few weeks.

I also cut down my sugar intake, and stopped wearing pants in bed (a tip I read on here!)

I've not had thrush for about 4 months now so fingers crossed it's worked.

Thishatisnotmine · 30/01/2019 06:23

OP get your partner a Canestan tablet. Men do not always have any signs or symptoms of thrush. Treating your dp could be avery easy way to clearup yours.

Gina2012 · 30/01/2019 06:30

Get husband tested

Cut out all sugar and carbs for 8 weeks

Use cytobiotic powder from Cytoplan

You can douche with this too

Claudia1980 · 30/01/2019 06:33

Go off the contraceptive pill if you are on it. I had thrush for years. Tried every treatment available. Went off the pill 11 years ago and I’ve never had thrush since.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 30/01/2019 06:34

Iron all your knickers.

Larasshadow · 30/01/2019 06:37

My doctor told me to have yakult. That has good bacteria in. Get it now when I need antibiotics as it stops me getting thrush.

Biologifemini · 30/01/2019 06:39

Salt baths help. A friend did this a couple of times a week and it helped massively.

VeryLittleOwl · 30/01/2019 06:40

Agree, get DP to take a fluconazole tablet and cover himself in Canestan cream for a few days. I had 9 years of recurrent thrush, ExH showed no symptoms whatsoever and refused to take any treatment. Since we split up, I've had it once since 2005.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 30/01/2019 09:32

Haven't had it at all since I came off the pill - my vagina also just feels less irritable and happier generally!

MsPavlichenko · 30/01/2019 09:46

Acidophillus. High dose tablets from Holland and Barret or like. Keep taking till finished. I usually take a high dose to start , then reduce.

Am evangelical about it, worked when nothing else did. I still take it if on ABs, or feeling run down.

Waveysnail · 30/01/2019 09:51

Have you had blood test to make.sure there's no underlying condition

cissyfuss · 30/01/2019 10:07

Ollivander84 · 30/01/2019 10:11

GUM clinic as there's different types of thrush

Mumsnut · 30/01/2019 11:21

Another saying Lichen Sclerosis. Ask for a referral, and keep asking

I feel your pain - I had constant thrush for about two years, and nothing worked. I tried:

  • probiotics (Optibac for Women and a specific one for Candida)
-various over the counter medications -various prescription meds -Gynecology referal, wanted me to go on AB for 6 months -candida diet (basically no carbs of any form, no sugar, no starch etc) -herbalist who gave me tonics, tablets and herbal teas

What eventually worked for me was two fold and quite simple. I went on a bizarre diet for 3 days, where all I ate was a guacamole (made of 3 avocados, a bulb of garlic, lemon juice and olive oil) on rice cakes. Apparently garlic is a strong natural antibiotic and anti fungal. It genuinely cleared up in about two days, and after two years of agony I couldn’t believe it. Secondly, it seems my thrush was a symptom of emotional stress, and once that stress was dealt with it didn’t recur. It was like a lightbulb moment.

Now, if I’m feeling run down, I’ll have a feed of the guacamole alongside what I normally eat, Just as a precaution.

I’d also echo PP - somewhere along the line I was told that your partner can carry Candida without any symptoms, and that could be your source of reinfection. To combat this I gave my DP some guacamole too.

Boxingmum · 30/01/2019 13:38

I use to get this, then went to the dr with back problems one day, he took my bloods and found I had extremely low vitamin b12 levels (I was feeling nerve pain in my back due to b12 defiency)
Was given b12 injections and straight away my recurrent thrush disappeared .... there is a connection somewhere.
Try getting some multi vitamins or some strong vitamin B12 tablets.

Happierwithouthim · 30/01/2019 13:45

I was the same until I was told to stay away from mushrooms(fungus) about 18 years ago, have only had thrush when bf since! I avoid them in jars etc as would get a slight bit when I'd have some like that, I can now tolerate some in a meal out if I get it by accident. I'm not taking the risk of reintroducing them to my diet though. Hope this helps

Wonkydonkey44 · 30/01/2019 13:48

I had thrush nearly all the time it was awful . Doctor told me to take a dose every week ( can’t remember the exact dose) as preventative and touch wood been fine since that . Then I had my coil out and I haven’t needed them since.

Highfever · 30/01/2019 13:54

Firstly try treating for threadworms. It can sometimes present itself as thrush type symptoms if they have got into your vagina.

Secondly a good probiotic like Biona Kefir following a longer course of antibiotics.

There are NICE guidelines on treating thrush. I had this problem a few years ago. I actually think mine was threadworms as well.
