Dd(8) abdominal pain, no idea what I can do next

My dd is 8 and has suffered from stomach pain for about a year although it appears to be getting worse. It is in the top part of her stomach, just below her ribs and is a sharp
Severe pain. It will come in waves and she has had a bad few days in which the pains come on between every 15mins to every hour. She goes very pale and doubles over for up to 5 minutes until it passes. There is no vommitting, diarrhoea or constipation.

We have been under the GP and she has had blood tests, urine tests, stool tests and an ultrasound which have all shown nothing. We've tried ant-acids, food diaries, laxatives and mebeverine (muscle relaxant) but nothing has cured it. The mebeverine sometimes helps but not reliably. She has just been referred to a paediatrician so I don't know what other tests they will do but in the meantime can anyone think of any reason for her to get this or anything else I can do to help her. Has anyone else had anything similar?

She says it feels like claws in her tummy and it literally stops her in her tracks. Thanks for any help.

Thank you so much for all of your responses, there's a few things here to ask the specialist about when we see them.

I'm not sure how they would diagnose an abdominal migraine, would it be a process of elimination? Could be anxiety, she doesn't seem anxious but I know it may manifest in other ways. Definitely some more ideas, thank you.

Random suggestion but maybe request a chest X-Ray

My granddaughter suffers with stomach pains. My daughter pur her on a gluten free diet and the difference was amazing. Recently (Christmas) she started eating normally again and the pain is back. She's going back to the gluten free stuff again, and there's quite a lot of choice now so not to difficult to do.

Ask them to check inside her bowel with a camera , don't let it drop, if she is suffering like that then something is wrong somewhere

My DS13 has had stomach pains for a year now. After drinking drinks with artificial sweeteners in from school vending machine. He's still not right. Comes and goes with the pains. Nothing found by consultant. Has buscopan now and a hot water bottle when it happens.

I believe his gut was changed by those bloomin drinks and he may be susceptible for ever

:-(

Is it constant or in cycles eg a few days of pain and then weeks without?

Sickofsquishies · 30/01/2019 06:41

It's difficult to see a pattern with it. Some days it's on and off all day and then she'll have days without any pain. The last few days have been particularly bad.
With gluten would the pain flare up after she eats something with gluten in or is it more just a build up?

My son is currently having stomach pain, generally all day, but worse at night when he lies down, he has to sit up and he feels sick. The doctor has diagnosed reflux but gaviscon isn't really helping.
I'm going to try and go back to the doctors, but as appointments are very rare to be hot hold of, I might try an elimatjon diet (gluten first, shouldn't be too hard over the course of a weekend)

Try an osteopath (alongside the medical route)
