AIBU to think that January and February should be switched?

Ive been thinking recently that January and February should be switched around.

At the moment January is a really long month (moneywise) as you get paid early in December and February is a really short month.

Wouldn't it be better if February came before January so that the length of time between payments are more even, which would help with budgeting?

I agree Smile

brizzledrizzle · 29/01/2019 19:06

Aren't most pay days around the 27th and so it'd make no difference?

RabbityMcRabbit · 29/01/2019 19:08

Brizzle February is a shorter month though...

halfwitpicker · 29/01/2019 19:09

Makes sense to me

marvellousnightforamooncup · 29/01/2019 19:10

I'd vote for that!

BifsWif · 29/01/2019 19:10

I’m in! Excellent idea!

brizzledrizzle · 29/01/2019 19:11

The difference between 21st Dec and 27th February (if the months were switched) would be the same as between 21st December and 27th January is now. Maybe December should be the shortest month.

PotteringAlong · 29/01/2019 19:11

Weirdly, that’s a really good plan Grin

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 29/01/2019 19:12

Technically, money wise March is the shorter month.
If you get paid on 28th.
Jan-feb there are 31 days between pay days, but feb to march there are only 28 days.

So for theory to work, February would have to be December!
...I think, my brain hurts

happysunr1se · 29/01/2019 19:13

I agree, but also, don't you think winter should be moved so Christmas is in the middle?

It's annoying to think that the shortest day of the year and the main winter festival are really before winter even properly starts.

I'm bored of winter by new year :(

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 29/01/2019 19:13

@brizzledrizzle xpost!

3out · 29/01/2019 19:13

What about birthdays? Would there be fall-out from making people a month older or younger?

DuggeeHugs · 29/01/2019 19:13

YABU. I don't want my birthday to be a month closer to Christmas

cheminotte · 29/01/2019 19:14

I think the first month after Christmas should be shorter yeah.
I don’t actually get paid early in December though. Do many people?

3out · 29/01/2019 19:15

And, can we afford Valentine’s Day a fortnight after Hogmanay? (We can, because we don’t do Valentine’s Day, but what if you do?)

Lazypuppy · 29/01/2019 19:18

I got paid as usual on last working day of month so january is just another normal month

Bbbbb27 · 29/01/2019 19:21

Brilliant idea! I got paid early for Christmas, then last day of the month thereafter... January is a killer Smile

DontCallMeCharlotte · 29/01/2019 19:23

So for theory to work, February would have to be December!

I’m loving the general notion of switching months round. Perhaps January could swap with June sometimes to give people with a January birthday a summer celebration. Ooh, the possibilities are endless! Inspired post op!!

bridgetreilly · 29/01/2019 19:58

I think we should adopt Dave Gorman's scheme: 13 months of 4 weeks each, with an extra spare day between the end of the last month and the beginning of the new year. The 13th month would, of course, be known as Gormanuary.

bridgetreilly · 29/01/2019 20:01

cheminotte I quite often do. My actual payday is the 24th, but if that's on a weekend then I get paid the Friday before. In December, I get paid on the 23rd or if that's a weekend, then the Friday before. So it can be as early as the 21st in December. Then it's a long gap to 24th Jan, a normal gap to 24th Feb, and a short gap to 24th March.
