I’m 32 and I can’t sleep with the light off. I can’t even have just a dim light / lamp on, it has to be the main light. My friends think I’m insane

It’s only ghosts who live in the dark, they won’t hurt you.

YANBU I’m in my forties have several kids and am still scared of the dark! Our house is never dark- I’ve been the same my whole life.

I'm not scared of the dark but I do sometimes like to leave the landing light on. Maybe I'm just odd because I also sometimes take sugar in coffee and sometimes I don't.

Refer yourself to IAPT. They love a specific phobia. (out of interest... Is there anything else you don't like apart from spiders and the dark?)

At 34 I’m scared of the dark. It’s ok where we live because there’s light from the street that comes through our blinds, but I couldn’t be in a room any darker. It’s a bit embarrassing if I’m away with friends, having a little night light on my phone and hoping they don’t see it. I can’t understand people who have total dark. My OH also wears an eye mask.

@SexNotJenga

I do actually have a fear of wheelie bins and have done from a young age. I can’t walk on the same side of the road as one and definitively wouldn’t be able to touch one. I don’t have OCD or anything like that

YANBU. I'm afraid of the dark at 44. I leave the landing light on or have a nightlight. Single parent so it's in the wee hours I feel the weight of the night and all the responsibilities perhaps.

My youngest has had trouble settling at age 9 but letting him keep his bedside light on sorted it out.
