To go home?

Been in school since 7:45 this morning prepping for lessons and to be at briefing for half eight. We've had the dreaded call and ofsted will be visiting tomorrow. Been talked at after school and told the building will be open LATE and good will be provided.

My books were marked up to date and I'm teaching what my classes need tomorrow, which was already planned based on ability and what covered so far.

Aibu to leave? Many staff are still here preparing for all eventualities and/or marking books which have been neglected for weeks.

Apart from doing my copying today rather than leaving it til morning and double checking all resources, books and equipment are in the right rooms and I making know precisely what I'm doing...which I've done... What should I still be here for? Yet I feel I'll be looked down upon to go...

Food, not good. Definitely not good food.

Go home. The quick dash to cover up what hasn't been done as it should is nothing but papering over cracks. Be open. Be willing to accept the recommendations based on the reality of your work environment. Otherwise, what's the point? The recommendations won't serve a purpose, nor will Ofstead have a true account of the difficulties the profession is facing.

And FWIW, everyone else wishes they had the balls to leave too.

eggofmantumbi · 28/01/2019 20:39

Definitely go home. You sound well prepared and they'll be wise to any stops being pulled out especially!

parrotonmyshoulder · 28/01/2019 20:40

Of course you should go home if you want to. I’d probably check colleagues were okay first, but we’re a very small teaching staff.

parrotonmyshoulder · 28/01/2019 20:41

Unlikely you’ll be observed anyway, so don’t worry too much about that. (Unless you’re a really small school)

Figuringitout · 28/01/2019 20:43

If you are a classroom teacher, then you have done all that is expected. Make sure you know who is SEN, EAL, PP etc in all of the classes you teach and that your plans and resources are in order (which it sounds like they are). You also need to be able to answer Safeguarding questions.
If you are a HOD then you need to know your development plan, exam stats, schemes of work, development of colleagues etc as well as all of the above.
If you were SLT you wouldn’t be asking about whether to go home!

Grapefruitgrape · 28/01/2019 20:46

Thanks for your replies. I am just a classroom teacher and I do know my classes and what to say to 'be on message'. Colleagues seem to have things covered and now the photocopier has jammed. A few of us are going to leave together! Feel mildly ridiculous.

Double check that you know who your Pupil Premium and LAC students are (if you are teaching any and check their the LAC PEP targets too).
Safeguarding is their biggest focus at the moment so might be worth having a re-read of KCSIE.

You're ready. Go home and rest. Good luck and this time tomorrow it will all be over.

MrsSpenserGregson · 28/01/2019 20:54

Good luck with the inspection OP.

Hope you're on your way home now!

Strictly1 · 28/01/2019 20:54

We had Ofsted last term and when watching lessons she was only checking my judgements matched hers. If it's a section 8 they're focused on leadership. Good luck.

Moonflower12 · 28/01/2019 23:19

They're really on safeguarding at the moment. Know your policy and procedure. And who your safeguarding lead is and deputy. I'm sure you do anyway!
