Is this ok to do or should I cancel

I've just booked a long overdue smear test (never actually had one before so bit worried) my DH called as soon as I got off the phone to say he has picked extra shift same day as I've just booked appointment.... I have 3DD, older 2 will be at school but my youngest DD is onlu 1 and I have no one local that could have her.

Would it be ok to take her with me or will nurse refuse to do it if DD is with me....

I took my 6 month old with me. He sat in the pushchair.

Fabaunt · 28/01/2019 15:11

Bring her and leave her in her buggy? I wouldn’t cancel my smear to be honest

Izzadoraduncancan · 28/01/2019 15:12

I've had a smear with 2 year old in the room. GP set DD up with her own smear kit and she took cells from my arm as GP was at the business end - DD was so engrossed she had no idea where the GP was examining. With a 1 Year perhaps if they are in the buggy and you bring a small treat??

billybagpuss · 28/01/2019 15:12

She'll be fine, the procedure takes less than 5 mins and DD can sit in pushchair.

Well done for booking it, don't go looking for excuses to cancel Flowers

HumpHumpWhale · 28/01/2019 15:13

DD came to my last one. Think she was 18 months or so, maybe a bit less. She insisted on sitting on my stomach while it was done, which was half irritating, half a nice distraction. Single mums need smears too, it would be a bit unfair to refuse you one because you don't have childcare!

MaMisled · 28/01/2019 15:13

I've taken babies and toddlers in. Ensure they're occupied in a pushchair with a book or toy.

MaMisled · 28/01/2019 15:13

The smear will take about 2 or 3 minutes.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 28/01/2019 15:14

Why are you asking us instead of the surgery?

And no, they wont refuse

HumpHumpWhale · 28/01/2019 15:14

P.s. obvs it would be better if she'd been in the buggy but the nurse and I both preferred the no screaming option- DD is scared of doctors since she broke her arm at 1.

Skimmedmilk1 · 28/01/2019 15:14

I'm a GP, fine to have a child that age in the room - more difficult for a wandering toddler who will put their head round the curtains, but I've had those too!

Aquamarine1029 · 28/01/2019 15:15

Get the bloody test done! It's insane you haven't had one before.

Elbbob · 28/01/2019 15:15

I'm sure it'll be fine to take her, as others said just keep her in the buggy. It'll be over in 2 mins.

swampytiggaa · 28/01/2019 15:16

I’ve breast fed a child whilst having a smear 😂😂😂 honestly it should be fine 💕

DiddyLongLegs · 28/01/2019 15:17

Yep the baby can stay in the buggy the smear only takes a minute or two. Even if baby cries I'm sure the nurse won't mind (they do the babies jabs too remember, they're used to it!)

seven201 · 28/01/2019 15:18

I took my 2 year old with me. She was hovering around my legs looking very interested. She got a sticker.

Angrybird345 · 28/01/2019 15:19

Take her .... and a biscuit!

Hushhush89 · 28/01/2019 15:39

@Aquamarine1029... yes I know it's ridiculous I haven't had one done yet, but the fact I've had messed up periods since having my 2nd DD hasn't made it easy for me to have it done (never actually knew if I'd be on or off so was hard for me to actually book an appointment)

@PlainSpeakingStraightTalking I did try call my doctors back but the fact it told me I was number 15 in line for 5 mins I have up waiting as I currently have my DD hanging off me and was screaming at the time....

Thanx all, glad I don't have to worry about having DD with me. I'll make sure I take something to keep her entertained x
