To build furniture at 5pm on a friday night?

Friday I had a furniture delivery as I needed new drawers for the baby due next month
Partner went to the shop and I was bored so cracked on with the little drawers. Only had to use the hammer to put nails in the backboard. However, I started hammering and this was followed by my neighbour repeatedly banging on the wall and shouting abuse such as 'f*k off you stupid c*ts' I was home alone at the time and 36 weeks pregnant so left the housing officer a voicemail about it (we're both council flats)
This isn't the first incident we've had with this neighbour, he walked past my OH then started slagging him off to his mate and my partner said what did you just say, and the men walked off. The next morning my OH saw the neighbour again and neighbour said 'you're lucky I didn't cut you last night' !! This was on tuesday and we logged the incident with housing officer and police. Housing officer has been round to see the man and warned us that this man is known for being aggresive / losing his temper and to stay away?! So am I in the wrong for building furniture at 5pm. Who knows what would of happened if this man came round as I am 36 weeks pg and was alone at the time

I had to double check that you didn’t mean 5am!

5pm is totally reasonable!

It’s a mildly annoying noise at any time, however it’s part of living in proximity to others, and a brief spell of hammering on one occasion at 5pm is barely worth mentioning! Such an aggressive reaction would never have been justified no matter what time you were hammering at tbh. Of course you’re not in the wrong.

I think I'd be screaming at the HA to find me an alternative flat. You poor thing.

Slightly worried as to how this man will deal with the noise of a baby crying in 4 weeks time if he can't deal with a bit of hammering

5 pm is a very reasonable time to be doing that kind of thing! He would have a point if it was 5 am....

I would be very worried about him once baby is here

I think the law is 11pm latest? So obviously you were find. He is BU

Of course YANBU to build furniture at 5pm. This man sounds unhinged. I'd be very wary of him and looking to find alternative accommodation because however reasonable you are he sounds like he'll be permanently angry and aggressive.
