PTA event

Posted here for traffic really.
ExH is being a massive twat because there is an event coming up organised by the PTA taking place in a community centre with a bar. He's trying to ban me from taking our kids and said he's going to cause holy hell to try and stop the school letting the event take place. It's been happening for years and raises funds for the school.
AIBU to think that he's a massive nobhead and the school will think the same?!

I'd be amazed if the local newspaper were even the slightest bit interested. Even on a slow news day.

myhamsteratefreddiestarr · 27/01/2019 17:39

Why on earth would the local newspaper be interested?

Our PTA sells mulled wine at Xmas and Lager/Pimms in the summer. I thought it was pretty standard and have never seen anyone trashed, mainly because most people have to drive home.

He is just a total knob and hopefully won't get anywhere with this.

conflictedwithexh · 27/01/2019 17:47

He's a twat. A complete and utter wanker. So many sandwiches short of a picnic it's untrue!!

OP posts:
Walkingdeadfangirl · 27/01/2019 17:54

Cant wait to see the headline:

"School PTA plans to sell wine at fundraiser party!

Hedonistic single mums to flirt with the dads whilst children watch on aghast. Child welfare are on on alert for hundreds of referrals."

conflictedwithexh · 27/01/2019 17:58

I know it sounds absolutely ridiculous I'm just fucking furious that he's done this not thinking of any effect it could have on the dc. Selfish selfish bastard he is

OP posts:
LittleLannister · 27/01/2019 18:00

Imagine the headline OP

“Dad of children claims school attempting to Lead children down the slippery road of alcohol dependency”

And in the tiny box underneath: what a knob...

conflictedwithexh · 27/01/2019 18:01

He is a total nobber. But when his lengths to control me extend to involving the dc I can't help but lose my shit. It's a good job they're here otherwise I'd be causing havoc

OP posts:
LittleLannister · 27/01/2019 18:03

I’d hate to imagine what he’s think of me... glass of wine at least 3 nights a week, the occasional night out with the dorks despite being (gasp) a mother of 2 dc and married!!! The shame of it!!!

Total bellend who’s own personal agenda is going to affect his dc... Twat

LittleLannister · 27/01/2019 18:03

Girls- not dorks, but you should have seen us last night!!!!

PoutySprout · 27/01/2019 18:04

What about things like the summer fayre and Christmas fayre? Don't they have a bar / mulled wine respectively? All PTA events like that at my school have a bar.

Absolutely not. We don’t even sell sweets, never mind booze.

Hushnownobodycares · 27/01/2019 18:06

Local newspaper?! Arf Grin

Perhaps suggest if he's that anti he takes on the job of organising an alternative?

SummerStrong · 27/01/2019 18:07

Stop engaging with him about this, I imagine he's getting a kick out of your reaction (control?) just dismiss him with a 'do what you need to do' attitude. It'll take the wind out if his sails somewhat.

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 27/01/2019 18:14

Church events in this country often involve alcohol -and are all the jollier for it- There is such a thing as responsible drinking, has he heard of that?

He’s clearly just a troublemaker with anger issues, everyone will quickly get his measure and you will have the sympathy of the entire community OP.

Mulberry72 · 27/01/2019 18:29

What an absolute weapon! Don’t engage with his fuckwittery and remember why he’s your ex!

MulticolourMophead · 27/01/2019 18:31

Echoing glenthebattleostrich here. Also chair of a PTA, and also having alcohol at some events.

We plan all such events in detail. I apply for a licence and the application goes to the council and also the police, before being signed off anc coming back to me. I have to be there at the event as the licensee.

We apply for a licence only for certain events, eg quiz nights. Other events we determine are not suitable. And I know that trading standards have been and visited at least one event of ours, as I got a note passed on thanking me for being firm about not serving alcohol to someone potentially underaged (I knew she was, DD knew her and she couldn't produce an ID).

If your ExH was to think about this logically, pretty much most of the pubs and places like Wetherspoons would close. How many people go along for a meal and have a drink as well?

What. A. Twat!

MsTSwift · 27/01/2019 18:33

There are other countries he may be happier living in. I suggest Saudi Arabia?

conflictedwithexh · 27/01/2019 18:37

It's at a bloody social club as well. What a moron he is

OP posts:
WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 27/01/2019 18:44

To be fair, I think it is scummy when people drink if they are in charge of children.

However, he can't control other people and he's been absolutely ridiculous.

conflictedwithexh · 27/01/2019 19:23

So a glass or two of wine at a social event makes people scummy? 😕

OP posts:
WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 27/01/2019 20:10

Yep.

CokeAndCrispsAndDip · 27/01/2019 20:20

I'm scummy and proud Grin

Leeds2 · 27/01/2019 20:20

How do you know he has contacted the local newspaper, OP? Because he has told you, or because they have printed something online?

I just don't see that it is a "story". Fairly normal event at most schools, I would think.

gottastopeatingchocolate · 27/01/2019 20:50

Sometimes I read a thread title and wonder if my ex had a second family!! Wink

I hope you aren't engaging with him in any way about this, and are venting here instead. Because if he knows it is winding you up, he will go much further than if he thinks it is having no effect.

How old are DC? Hopefully the efforts your ex is making won't reach them. I can't imagine the newspaper being interested, even on the quietest of news days!

MsTSwift · 27/01/2019 21:08

Well I and everyone I know (teachers doctors professors dentists plumbers) are ALL scummy. Some weirdos around for sure Grin

Beamur · 27/01/2019 21:13

Sitting here with a glass of scum whilst my DD gets ready for bed.
DD's primary school pretty much always sold alcohol at evening events for parents.
It's non news. Can't imagine your local paper having any interest in that whatsoever.
