To want a new dishwasher even though the old one works?

This dishwasher came with the house. Very nice fitted kitchen, all built-in appliances. We moved in seven years ago. We replaced the oven as we wanted a gas hob, but kept everything else.

The dishwasher is noisy, has grunge in the bits you can't clean (you know, round the edges - I've tried scraping with a knife but I just know there's years of grime hiding where I can't reach), and we've just guessed at the cycles as it didn't have a manual and there's no sign of a manufacturer or serial number anywhere.

For about two months, the little flap that holds the detergent quite literally flies off every single wash and I have to pull the racks out to retrieve it, then fiddle with the little spring-lock thingy to latch it back on.

DH is quite happy with it. It works. It doesn't leak. He doesn't see the point in buying a new one when the old one is perfectly good (!)

WIBU to break something on the bloody thing so we HAVE to get a new one?

What could I break? Grin

Sorry I'm with your DH. Too much 'stuff' on the poor planet as it is.

If is actually functioning and cleans I wouldn’t. But if you do, put it up for sale, or free to a good home. Someone may appreciate it.

I would have to get a new one. Wouldn't want a second hand dishwasher. I know how grubby mine is but it's our own dirt ITSWIM. I'm with you on this. Break it!
