To go the walk in center?

Recently diagnosed with anaemia which goes some way to explaning why my immune system is rubbish. For the past week I've been run down, swollen glands, sore throat, shivery, lethargic, headaches. It's been basically dlu without the cold symptoms but now the blocked nose, aching face and coughing up have begun.
The stuff I'm coughing up is off a dark green/brown colour and it's non stop. I'm a severe asthmatic and I've spent the night glued to my reliever inhaler. Usually when I'm like this my doctor just prescribes me antibiotics and steriods over the phone so dp can collect and I don't have to infect anyone. However with it being yje weekend I'm stuck.

Do I wait it out until monday or go the walk in?

Go and be seen. That’s what it is there for.

ragged · 26/01/2019 11:29

that coughed up gunk + severe asthma = you must go now.

trooth · 26/01/2019 11:29

Use the service as that's what it's there for.

sleepdeprived17 · 26/01/2019 11:32

Will they be able to prescribe me antibiotics and steriods? I don't wanna go out and possibly infect people if theres no point

Yes of course they can prescribe antibiotics and steroids. Go now. Dont mess about if you need your reliever inhaler that much then you obviously need more meds.

differentkindofpenguin · 26/01/2019 11:34

Do you have an out of hours go at the walk in? They might be able to prescribe over the phone the same way your gp does. If that's not an option yes, definitely walk in centre. hope you feel better soon

sleepdeprived17 · 26/01/2019 11:40

No out of hours at walk in center that I know of. I rang my doctors to see if they had an out of hours service on their answer machine but just said to call 111.

Gonna drag myself out the bed and attempt to get dressed

Either go to walk in centre or call 111, which will arrange OOH GP to contact you (providing you have one in your area.)

MotorcycleMayhem · 26/01/2019 11:43

111 is how you access the OOH GP on most areas. Give them a bell. Your asthma sounds worrying though - I don't know whether you should go to the walk in for that alone.

EarthboundMisfit · 26/01/2019 11:44

Yes definitely get seen.

LoniceraJaponica · 26/01/2019 11:45

Please don't wait until Monday

Mabelface · 26/01/2019 11:46

Don't fuck around with asthma. Go and get seen.

Groovee · 26/01/2019 11:47

You need to be seen x

WonderTweek · 26/01/2019 11:51

Yes, ring 111 and they can sort an appointment for you. Smile

LadyandGent · 26/01/2019 11:54

I'd probably go to the walk in centre. You know yourself it's only going to get worse and could be pneumonia by Monday.

Schuyler · 26/01/2019 12:01

NHS 111 is the out of hours service. They can access weekend appointments or you need to go to the walk in but you need to be seen.

sleepdeprived17 · 26/01/2019 12:06

On hold to 111 now

Go to A&E, don't bother with 111/out of hours. You need nebulisers, and steroids if you haven't slept because you couldn't breathe, & taking repeated reliever/salbutamol inhaler hasn't helped. The WIC can give you back-to-back nebulisers, & a prescription for steroids & more preventer/salbutamol inhalers but if your breathing is as bad as you say you may need observation & that's what A&E is for. Take care

sleepdeprived17 · 26/01/2019 12:31

Thankfully I don't feel like I'm at the nebuliser stage but if I do, straight to A&E. Unfortunately my asthma still goes tbrough phases of being quite uncontrolled so I've just sort of learnt to live with it , however I know if I don't get this seen to now it probably will end up at the nebulising stage. Just waiting on ooh dr to ring

Got an out of hours appointment booked for 2 pm

Good news @sleepdeprived17, glad you're getting sorted. Do you have an asthma plan, e.g. when you have a cough cold, double your preventer-steroid inhaler dose, &/or take reliever/salbutamol/ventolin inhaler regularly (2 inhalations 4 times a day, & 10 puffs if needed). A plan can reduce acute, (scary) asthma episodes, & save lives. Apologies if I'm 'teaching you to suck eggs''

sleepdeprived17 · 26/01/2019 14:13

@rosebud21 I did have but it never seemed to make much difference. The asthma clinic at my dr's is a bit lacking, they just mutter the same advice Ive been getting since my toddler years. Its been quite uncontrolled for over a year now.

Dr has prescribed steriods and antibiotics, chest infection confirmed. There goes my diet

Rosebud21 · 26/01/2019 15:19

Get well soon @sleepdeprived17

DontTouchTheMoustache · 26/01/2019 15:29

Op my asthma was really out of control just in inhalers. I saw the asthma nurse rather than doc and she prescribed me montelukast which is a daily tablet and its honestly changed my life, hardly ever get symptoms now.

Also, there are contact numbers given at the end of this link for specialist advice www.asthma.org.uk/advice/understanding-asthma/types/difficult-control-asthma/
