To stress about my tongue!

This is really random and I appreciate not a health board!
The other day the tip of my tongue was sore. I assumed a little ulcer. Nothing to see but tiny bump. It’s gradually gotten worse and now my entire tongue feels like it does when you scald it with hot tea. There’s absolutely nothing to see. Not overly red, no white coating and although I can feel some sore bumps they aren’t visible.
Any ideas what this is? I guess my AIBU is does it warrant a dr appt? (Obvs not over the weekend) will feel stupid saying my tongue is sore but nothing to see.
Got to the point now where I don’t want to eat because it hurts too much.

Yes I would make an appointment to see your doctor. Sore tongue/mouth can be a sign of a few things. My mum has lichen planus which is mostly in her mouth but is incredibly sore. Hopefully it's not that but definitely worth getting checked out!

Worzilgummidge · 26/01/2019 08:17

Not sure but the tongue is prone to this sort of thing and I've had similar on the side of mine. I would give it a few days to see if it clears up before going to docs. You could try the pharmacist first.

BusterGonad · 26/01/2019 08:19

Could it be thrush of the tongue?

JacktomyDaniel · 26/01/2019 08:54

I’m really not sure. It doesn’t have any of the thrush appearance and although I’ve had the odd ulcer before I’ve never had anything like this. It’s exactly like my tongue has been burnt. I’ll pop into the pharmacy today and see what they say. Thanks

Are you taking any medication that has steroid? Some asthma meds can cause thrush in the mouth.

LadyGAgain · 26/01/2019 09:09

Please see a doctor ASAP.

TigerBreadAddict · 26/01/2019 09:13

Some deficiencies cause sore or "burning" tongue eg B vits or iron

BalloonSlayer · 26/01/2019 09:15

Someone I know has just come down wit what I think is thrush in their mouth. They had the sore tongue for about 3 days before they saw any white.

Pharmacist will probably be able to advise.

Worzilgummidge · 26/01/2019 09:17

These issues with the tongue do tend to clear up in thier own time.

BusySnipingOnCallOfDuty · 26/01/2019 09:17

I can make my tongue feel like this with it without a weird lump on it, from eating strongly flavoured crisps or old el paso fajitas. Or fizzy sweets. But I'd check it. You can pop into a pharmacy and ask.

JacktomyDaniel · 26/01/2019 11:08

Thanks everyone. I’ve definitely done it (to a lesser degree) with certain foods before but this has been a few days now and is getting worse. Will definitely pop in to the pharmacy later. Really appreciate the advice!

Also no meds and as far as I know no deficiency

Gargle with salt water op and see if that helps it, also try putting bonjella on it to numb it a bit...

On think that has really worked miracles for me when I have had any sore areas in my mouth is a mouthwash from super drug called peroxyl (think that is how it's spelled) it's like magic the quickness it gives you relief and heals it up

SuchAToDo · 26/01/2019 11:26

*only thing...not... on think

ClothesHangingOnTheFloor · 26/01/2019 15:33

b12 deficiency can cause a sore tongue (and mouth/lips). See your GP, who'll probably suggest a blood test to check.

I have Pernicious Anaemia, and I have b12 jabs every 12 weeks, and I always know when mine is due because my tongue feels like it's been burned, or like I've eaten 20 packets of S&V crisps ha ha!

steff13 · 26/01/2019 16:08

I get this every month right before my period. In fact I have it right now. It goes away on its own after a few days. It just started randomly, and then I noticed it was happening that week each month. My doctor said it's probably due to hormonal fluctuations. 🤷

Iamnobirdandnonetensnaresme · 26/01/2019 16:11

Have you changed toothpaste? My tongue get really sore with some enamel building toothpastes

IndieTara · 26/01/2019 19:24
