AIBU to vaccum at 2am?

I am currently working away with work and been put up in an airbnb which is in a big block of flats, I think the majority are occupied and are residential. Just got up to get a glass of water and in my tired state knocked some glasses out of the cupboard and they have shattered absolutely everywhere. Would it be really inconsiderate to vacuum them up now whilst I still remember where most of the glass has gone. I don't want to be inconsiderate to my neighbours but don't want to leave glass everywhere as well.

Assuming only you are in the flat then yabu. Is there not a sweep brush?

Hohofortherobbers · 24/01/2019 21:55

I think that's reasonable. It's not like you're doing the spring clean

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 24/01/2019 21:57

Yes, it would be. Sorry. Esp in flats.

Put some chairs around the rough area and do it in the morning.

simplesalvage · 24/01/2019 21:57

there is no brush and sweep.

So you're in a block of residential flats and you want to vacuum at 2am?! I think that's very unreasonable. If there's only you in the flat, leave yourself a note for the morning and do it then.

gonegnome · 24/01/2019 21:58

unless someone is likely to walk on the glass between now and morning, leave it until morning and don't wake neighbours up!

Dextrodependant · 24/01/2019 21:59

I would probably leave it till morning if you are alone in the flat.
Put the Hoover next to it so you don't forget.

simplesalvage · 24/01/2019 21:59

There is not only me in the flat, there is a group of us.

It kind of reminds me of student accommodation with lots of separate rooms off a corridor and a shared communal area.

Yabu

simplesalvage · 24/01/2019 22:09

Okay I think the agreement is to not vacuum. Thank you for your help :) I just didn't want to annoy my colleagues by leaving broken glass everywhere... really worried someone might stand on it. I will leave a note out and hope they see it.

Any pieces of cardboard around so you could scoop it up? Text your flatsharers to warn them?

simplesalvage · 24/01/2019 22:17

I picked up the big pieces, but it literally shattered to tiny shards. There is nothing to get it up with other than the vacuum. I would text them but I don't have there numbers, we don't have work phones and I don't know them well enough to exchange personal numbers. I could email them to their work emails but I know they wouldn't check it first thing.

Just do it, it's a one off!

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 24/01/2019 22:34

Bloody hell there's glass everywhere, I'd hoover! Noise is annoying but glass is dangerous, it's not like you're doing it every night.

Fr3d · 24/01/2019 22:36

You can kinda sweep using a vacuum not turned on, if there is no broom. I would have thought hoovering glass would wreck the hoover

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 24/01/2019 22:49

I hate disturbing people and I hate waking anyone but as a pp said this is a one off. There is glass everywhere! I definitely wouldn’t be able to leave that and go to bed!

Cheerbear23 · 24/01/2019 22:50

I think this is a one off where you should (quickly). Someone could stumble along tired and stand in it.

explodingkitten · 24/01/2019 22:56

I've vacuumed broken glass in the middle of the night because I didn't want the cats to hurt themselves. As a one off and not being home alone I would.

YankeeDad · 24/01/2019 23:06

I think it's reasonable to vacuum if it's broken glass and people might injure themselves otherwise, and you have no other good way to get rid of the bits of glass.

It may be worth putting a note on the downstairs neighbour's door to apologise, as that could reassure them it won't become a habit!

BlackCatSleeping · 24/01/2019 23:10

The OP is probably asleep now but I tried the bread trick and it does actually work. Just press a slice of bread again the floor where the glass is and it sticks to the bread.

Heyha · 24/01/2019 23:10

@yankeedad definitely best solution. Vacuum it, risk being in the dog house but stop anyone getting hurt, put apology through to next door/underneath in the morning. I'd be pissed off if I was a neighbour but would soon get over it if you explained why, perfectly reasonable.
