My time with social

So I don't know how to post a link to my other threads. after a strange bruise was found on my DS 16 months social got involved and it was deemed by health professionals that it was a non accidental injury. My DS was being looked after by family and friends before I found the bruise so we can determine who or what caused it. Social themselves have been quite nice about the whole thing considering. we had a meeting today where all the people involved in the child's life docs, health visitor ect.. Get together and give their opinion on if DS should be put on an at risk register. The vote came back unaminous that he was in no danger and I'm a pretty good mum so no register. It's been alot of jumping through hoops and Appointments.
Any questions fire away

I’m confused. Why would we want to ask you questions? What is the purpose of your thread?

GertrudeWilloughby · 24/01/2019 18:38

Is this meant to be an AMA?

Sparklesocks · 24/01/2019 18:39

Sorry OP I’m confused, do you mean general questions about SS or your specific background?

NotSoThinLizzy · 24/01/2019 18:57

Anything really if people are in same position or have read my other threads.

My sister took her 5 month old to get weighed the other day. He had a bruise on his forehead from a week previously when he had head butted a toy. It was so small you had to look for it. Their policy is to refer under the bruising protocol and she was sent to hospital and referred to social services. She was so shocked and upset obviously. She was found to be no risk. I get why they are doing it because of all the high profile cases there has been and poor children that have been missed but I think common sense needs to come into it. This would have been a lot of time wasted for the hospital etc as a result. Attached is said bruise - hopefully

What's your AIBU though?

SB1013 · 24/01/2019 19:13

Hope that worked

SB1013 your poor sister, that must have been so worrying for her! Way to put new parents off getting their baby weighed or utilising health visiting services.

Mummyto2munchkins · 24/01/2019 19:20

My daughter was at nursery when we had a call to say she had split her chin open. I had to leave work to take her to the hospital to get it glued back together.
I had a call from my health visitor a few days later asking how it happened. I said I didn't know as it was at nursery and she's fine now. She asked what nursery and called them to check this was true. Then rung me to advise "they backed my story"... It proper annoyed me... How am I meant to know the details when I wasn't even there when it happened!

YouSayPotatoesISayVodka · 24/01/2019 19:22

Eesh I don’t like these types of threads. They just seem to help perpetuate the myth that social services are a load of interfering, baby stealing monsters who are out to ruin innocent people’s lives and I don’t think that’s helpful to anyone.

NotSoThinLizzy · 24/01/2019 19:32

I honestly would've thought it was dodgy if I had seen a bruise like my DS I would've caused me concern. I have no problem with the fact social got involved. Just can be stressful. It's quite common for this situation to happen

gosh the phrase "they backed my story" is so loaded, funny how it seems different to nursery confirmed it happened there.

I think I may have had to tell the Gp about how dd stepped in a toy wok, which slid out from under her and she fell over and banged her head. dd has hypermobility syndrome so bruises really easily, we are all permently bruised. It si a relief that we have the diagnosis now so we can say that this is probably the cause.

I couldn't tell them what had caused the bruise I haven't seen him fall or hit anything so that's why it was such a big to do. My theory is DS fell when someone was watching him but dosent want to own up or DS fell when wasn't being properly supervised either way we now only have designated baby sitters people who wasn't around when this happened 😊
