To think we should have heard back by now?

DS is still waiting to hear from two of his university choices, I'm not sure how it works though - if they don't like the sound of you do they send a rejection or just not reply? All the applications should be in by now, l wish they'd just put him out of his misery one way or the other!
Can any of you 'varsity vipers shed some light on the inner workings?

He would get a rejection letter.
Fingers crossed for him!

Yes, he would know one way or the other. Lots of universities haven't made decisions yet, though. Last year, one of my students didn't get her acceptance until March. Good luck to your DS!

Bluntness100 · 24/01/2019 09:57

Yes, they will tell him, not hearing isn't necessarily a bad thing, some of them go through rounds, and kids are knocked out at each round and told, so it may mean he's still in with a a chance.

Has he checked his spam folder in case they have requested further info, interveiw or applicant days? Unis have several months yet in which to reply. If he does not have all responses by end March his UCAS deadline will change from May 1st.

UsedtobeFeckless · 24/01/2019 10:11

He's been asked to two interviews and had one offer. I'll suggest he checks his spam - thanks!

Have a look at The Student Room website. There are lists on there of how quick the unis are at letting you know. I know Durham was incredibly slow when my ed was waiting for her replies. Reading was very quick, as was Cambridge.

Alongwaytogo · 24/01/2019 10:52

Unis are still working through applications. He will find out one way or another soon. My friend works in admissions of a local uni and they have lost staff due to cuts but still have the same offers to process. They are working through them as fast as they can

firstbrightday · 24/01/2019 10:53

The deadline for the cast a majority of universities was only the 15th Jan - I went to a top 5 uni and hadn't heard back yet!

thecatsthecats · 24/01/2019 11:26

In my experience, entirely unpredictable.

Warwick gave me a rapid unconditional offer when I had them 4th on my list, way before their advertised offer dates.

Durham kept me hanging until 3 days before their open day for students with offers.

Law unto themselves, unfortunately - though no news is not either bad or good!

UsedtobeFeckless · 24/01/2019 17:44

Ah - one of them is Durham! Grin l'll tell him to chill ...

Different unis take different times to respond, it's not bad news that he hasn't heard unfortunately it's just a waiting game I'm afraid. He will definitely hear either way
