To remove son from school just before SATS?

We are in the process of moving house, all being well we will move in the Easter holidays and start at new school beginning of Easter term. My question is, is this going to affect the current school badly in terms of SATS (DC is Year 2)? Should I be giving them early warning so they can test him earlier or something? Or will he take them in new school? Anything I can do to avoid buggering up the school's results? Or maybe it won't matter at all? I'm not 100% sure when SATS are scheduled to take place, but I have a feeling they always happen in the Summer term?
Thanks for any advice.

Aren't y2 sats for internal use only?

ReadWriteDraw · 24/01/2019 17:35

I’m sure the school would let you know. Surely if he’s not on the school role he won’t be counted in the results??

Russell19 · 24/01/2019 17:36

Will have no impact on current school. They wont even have the papers delivered until May. He will take them at the new school. Tbh would be worse for the new school as they wouldn't have taught him and may use different methods etc. Xx

LittleOwl153 · 24/01/2019 17:37

Ks1 Sat's are in May - date determined by the school with in that.
Your child won't be on the old school role count by then so won't count assuming you do move in Easter hols. He'll take them at new school which might be tough for him but ks1 Sat's shouldn't be pressured.

spanieleyes · 24/01/2019 17:37

It won't affect the school badly, it will affect the percentage results slightly ( just over 3% in a class of 30, less if it is a 2 or 3 form entry) but which way depends on whether he meets the standard or not! He will sit the tests at his new school as they need to be taken in May, schools generally do them after KS2 sats but they can be done at any time during May. I really wouldn't worry!

valentinoandme · 24/01/2019 17:38

He won't be able to sit them early as they release the papers all at the same time nationally, just before they sit them. It shouldn't matter that he's doing them at a different school as they all should be taught the same thing x

ginnybag · 24/01/2019 17:38

They're national tests but both schools should have taught the curriculum and fundamentally at 6/7 theyre not going to make a difference to your child.

You might even view it as a chance for new school to check old school did a good job

Willow1992 · 24/01/2019 17:39

He won't be able to take them early as they have to be opened on the day and the school won't get them until a day or two before SATs week.

I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you.

It it a very small school? If it has 60 or 90 pupils in y2 then he won't make much difference but if it is a small school with only half a class of y2s then yes 1 child could make a huge difference.

AJPTaylor · 24/01/2019 17:40

Of all the things to worry about when moving, sats isn't one of them!

Theworldisfullofgs · 24/01/2019 17:43

Yr2 sats aren't published and missing them will make no difference to your son or the school.
Ofsted are planning to not pay as much to school data in their assessments as well.

Willow1992 · 24/01/2019 17:45

LIZS yes and no. Teachers have to report where they assess each child to be at then end of KS1 and this data is made public, and a certain percentage of teacher assessments get moderated so you have to be able to evidence where they are. If you are disagreeing with their SATs score you have to be able to prove it.

TENDTOprocrastinate · 24/01/2019 17:55

YABU for worrying about this.
Lol
We relocated across the country at Easter a few years back, when my dd was in yr2 and it didn’t even occur to me to consider the SATS, and I’m a teacher!

She had the tests in her new school (she didn’t even know she was doing a test) they really aren’t a big deal.

anyideasonthis · 24/01/2019 19:28

Thanks all. Just to be clear, I am not worried about my DC, I know the SATs are totally irrelevant and unimportant from our point of view. I am wanting to make sure we are not affecting current school results. It is only one form entry so 30 kids in Y2. School is lovely and they work very hard hence me wondering if there's anything I should say or do. (DC doing well in everything so should pass everything ok).

As a school governor we wouldn't be worried.
It won't be detrimental to the school.

arethereanyleftatall · 24/01/2019 22:58

That's a really kind thought process op. I'm glad other posters above have confirmed it's fine.

anyideasonthis · 25/01/2019 08:36

Thanks again everyone!

The only way it will impact the school is if the child who takes your child's space isn't going to pass as if will drop their data but that's out of your control! Xx
