I am 46 years old and have always worked in NMW jobs, mainly catering. I would like to retrain to be a food technology teacher. I still have a good 20 years working life left (all being well). Any one else retrained for a career later in life? Are you glad you did it? Any thoughts advice much appreciated.

Yes, do it! I'm doing a health access course and there are a few women in there late forties who who have all got interviews next month for University to become midwives! Absolutely fantastic. You want something, go for it Smile

Do it. My mum went back to uni in her early 40s after stopping nursing to raise me and my sister. She did a return to practice course and loved it. She came out higher on her dissertation than me and my sister! She’s now a senior nursing sister and loves it.

Good luck op

I worked in clearing last summer - some universities offer foundation years which qualify for student loans. It might be worth seeing if there is one suitable/local to you.

I dealt with quite a few mature students who were coming to university via that route - felt so happy for them Smile

Here is an inspirational woman, she qualified as a midwife aged 61. If she can do it, so can you!

I'm 47 and half way through a PGCE. It's bloody hard but I'm really enjoying it at the same time. I think you should do it.
