If you or your partner could avoid visiting somebody with flu whilst you are pregnant would you? Or carry on as normal?

I would avoid someone with 'flu (not just a bad cold) even if not pregnant

19lottie82 · 23/01/2019 21:08

Do they actually have proper flu? If they did I don’t think they would be able to host guests. People like to bandy the word around when it’s actually just a cold.

If it is genuinely the flu then I would avoid contact, pregnant or not.

theWarOnPeace · 23/01/2019 21:09

I wouldn’t, even if not pregnant. Why would you increase risk of horrible illness at any time? YANBU

SinceYouAskMe · 23/01/2019 21:10

Yes I’d avoid. I’d probably steer clear of someone with a nasty cold as well tbf.

FlagFish · 23/01/2019 21:11

If they have proper flu I doubt they’d be up to hosting guests. If it’s just a cold, sore throat etc then I’d go.

AnneLovesGilbert · 23/01/2019 21:11

Absolutely. I’ve had the jab but not taking any risks.

jomaIone · 23/01/2019 21:11

Yeah I wouldn't visit someone with proper flu pregnant or not.

It's not just for fun that you get the flu vaccine while pregnant, and when looking after flu patients in hospital, medical staff where face masks!!!!!

UnicornSlaughters · 23/01/2019 21:12

Yes, but then I'd always go out of my way to avoid someone with proper flu (outside of my immediate family).

I'd probably even avoid someone with a bad cold if I was pregnant. All you can take is lousy paracetamol which is useless against a bad cold.

elliesm98 · 23/01/2019 21:12

Pregnant women can die from the flu so yes why wouldn’t you
Tbh I would avoid someone with the flu even if I wasn’t pregannt

Bluesmartiesarebest · 23/01/2019 21:12

YANBU

SinceYouAskMe · 23/01/2019 21:13

Flu jab is all very well, but it’s just the experts’ best estimate of what strains will be circulating and so there’s no way to tell whether it matches with what strain the patient actually has.

justasking111 · 23/01/2019 21:13

I even avoid close family when they are ill or I am. Why pass something nasty on.

Elfinablender · 23/01/2019 21:15

Yes.

Pfingstrose · 23/01/2019 21:15

I try to avoid contagious ill people where at all possible, pregnant or not.

pandechocolate · 23/01/2019 21:15

I've been trying to avoid all ill people whilst I'm pregnant. Sadly my DH brought a lovely cough home with him, which I now have, and I feel like I'm going to wee myself every time I have a coughing fit.

pigsDOfly · 23/01/2019 21:15

Why would you have to even go to someone's house if they've got flu?

As others have said, is it actually flu? Because if someone has flu, unless the visitor is coming to help them with things like child care, pet feeding or just making sure they have access to water to drink, most people with flu just want to lie in bed and be left alone.

ChocolateStash · 23/01/2019 21:15

You can get the flu jab when pregnant. YANBU avoid sick people.

z4zie · 23/01/2019 21:44

If someone has the flu and i mean proper flu not a cold then they should stay away from people. I wouldn't visit someone flu pregnant or not. Who would want to be visited any in this condition anyway?

wombatron · 23/01/2019 21:54

Yes. I have had a simple cold that has knocked me on my arse 3 times and I'm only 13 weeks. Not worth the risk - if it's work, they will understand, if it's family, they'll get over it.

Cheby · 23/01/2019 21:57

1000 times yes. Definitely avoid.

mindutopia · 23/01/2019 21:58

I would avoid contact with someone with the flu under any circumstances and I get vaccinated every year too. Flu can be fatal, even for healthy adults. No one should be putting themselves at unnecessary risk just for kicks.

caffeinebuzz · 23/01/2019 22:00

Yes, if they have the actual flu I would avoid them whether pregnant or not

Nothisispatrick · 23/01/2019 22:01

Yes. Flu is grim. Considering the effectiveness of flu jab in adults was 12.2% last year I’d not rely on that either.

AWishForWingsThatWork · 23/01/2019 22:01

YES!!! Absolutely! Colds are miserable enough when you're pregnant; you can't take anything for them!

AliceRR · 23/01/2019 22:02

As others have said I would avoid anyway but especially if pregnant and not sure why you would even consider it unless there’s a compelling reason to go
