Applying for student loan again (saas)

Has anyone done this before

I went to uni for 3 years (1st &2nd year then a repeat year) I took out a student loan and bursary all three times and I had my fees paid by saas.

I'm reapplying this year and wondering what my options will be with saas.

I know you get 5 years on saas so that would leave me 2 years wouldnt it?

Thanks in advance 😊

As far as I know you get one more year than the length of your course funded - so if you do medicine for example you can get 6 years funded, a normal course 5. Not sure what the situation would be since you’ve dropped out but I would ring them and ask - they’ve been very helpful in my experience with them!

I got 2 years at uni - dropped out and was told to do another degree I would only get years 2/3 covered out of 3 year degree?

So it’s maximum of 6 years funding

LegallyBrunet · 23/01/2019 19:32

I did two years with student loan and bursary. Student loan paid by SFE which gives you four years. When I reapplied for a different course after leaving for health reasons, I had to provide proof of extenuating circumstances for why I left my first course or they weren’t going to pay anything for the first year of my new one.

SAAS is course length +1, how long is your new degree?

amusedbush · 23/01/2019 19:37

Yes, you should get two more years and then any further fees will be up to you, through self funding, scholarship or employer sponsorship, etc.

Bombardier25966 · 23/01/2019 19:38

The +1 is available to anyone without evidence. If you have extenuating circumstances and can evidence them, you may be entitled to further funding.

FiendinFelineForm · 23/01/2019 19:43

You might find you have 2 years funding left, but you'll need to fund years 1&2 yourself.

DH had an HND (2 years funding) before uni, SAAS said they'd fund year 2 onwards of his degeee but we had to pay his fees for year 1.

spoon19996 · 23/01/2019 19:49

@FiendinFelineForm thank you for the reply 😊 does it have to be year one?
I was hoping if it is two years funding I could have it 1st&2nd year then work my 3rd&4th year?

OP try the Carnegie Trust for Scotland. Like you I repeated a year, first year it was, dropped out, then went back to do a new course a few years later. I needed to cover one year's fees myself, which the Carnegie did for me.

Thank you all for the replies

I have spoken to saas and they said I can apply them appeal

My reason for dropping out was my father committed suicide is this a circumstance they'd allow? I have all the evidence for it.
