I was dying for a scone yesterday and my local grocers had some lovely floury looking ones on display. Sadly they weren't covered over and with the amount of people coughing and sneezing all over the place at the moment, I wasn't minded to buy one.

AIBU to wish shops would put some kind of plastic cover over cakes and breads and not leave them exposed for everyone to hack and sneeze around?

Another who hates this

I was in Clapham Junction Station a few weeks ago and in the middle of the walkway there was a cake shop with food open on display. I could see the bugs jumping off the food. It's horrible

They could put clear covers on the food so it'd still be visible

I think people can be worried needlessly about this sort of thing. You're not going to get the plague from eating a sourdough that's been on the shelf for an hour.

I spent a long time in Asia eating street food. Chicken left out all day, eggs baking in 50 degree heat, trays of food visited by flies and fingered by god knows how many people.

I never got ill once.

We're all germ-phobes in the western world; isn't there research now to show this is why allergies are on the increase?

A toddler was face down in a large box of mushrooms, chomping away at the dirty mushrooms before his mum pulled him away by his hood.
One of the funniest things I've read on mumsnet

I also saw a child lick the nozzle of the ‘grind your own’ peanut butter machine in Wholefoods. Beyond grim.

Nooooooo!
