To not book Disney until after Brexit?

jamoncrumpets · 23/01/2019 14:50

Assuming it happens on March 29th?

Family are all wanting to book tickets to Disneyland Paris now but I just feel like we should hold off for a couple of months.

AIBU to not book our family's tickets/accommodation until after Brexit? MiL thinks I am.

We're going this summer btw.

Confused

What are your reasons for delaying?

Do you have a valid passport?

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 23/01/2019 15:10

... Why?

We booked back in November to go to disneyland Paris in early May. What problems are you expecting??

BiscuitDrama · 23/01/2019 15:12

I’d hope that travel problems would be sorted by summer.

HirplesWithHaggis · 23/01/2019 15:15

Can you get a package holiday? Apparently you have better money-back protection than if you book transport and accommodation separately, but do check. Loads of ferry sailings have been changed, flights could be restricted/cancelled...

MrsLettuce · 23/01/2019 15:18

YANBU. If no deal happens things could well still be supremely fucked up in august. If there is an extension to a50 then that is likely to end 1 July (or possibly 1 Aug) and we may well be in the midst of a disorderly excite in august. Or everything might be fine. There is no way of knowing which makes it's in no way unreasonable to plan for a no deal situation

GreenEggsHamandChips · 23/01/2019 15:20

Depends on how you are getting there and when you are going. Be aware train can be full in busy periods and plane gets more expensive the later you leave it. Disabled rooms book quite quickly. Restaurant bookings esp character dining gets harder the closer you leave it.

If you arent fussed where you stay and are driving/travelling by ferry, you can probably get away with a late booking.

GreenEggsHamandChips · 23/01/2019 15:22

Thats no comment on brexit btw. I think the no deal hysteria is somewhat OTT. Id say the same to anyone planning a late get away

blackteasplease · 23/01/2019 15:23

Well I know lots of people travelling to and from non EU countries without a problem so I think it should be just like that. I'm imagining even with no deal we'll just apply for a visa like everyone else.

SolemnlySwear2010 · 23/01/2019 15:28

We booked a few weeks ago to go in June - we have done it through Disney direct and booked our flights via Easyjet.

We have taken out insurance in case anything happens but we dont think we will have any issues.

Jaxhog · 23/01/2019 15:33

Well the papers are suggesting that a lot of flights will get cancelled, so I wouldn't. If you book a package, and/or you have travel insurance, you'll likely get your money back. If you book flights and accomodation seperately, you'll likely only get your flights refunded.

But I guess it may all get delayed anyway.

tillytoodles1 · 23/01/2019 15:34

My daughter works for a company that only sells holidays to Disneyland Paris. She said it's really busy at the moment.

HirplesWithHaggis · 23/01/2019 15:38

I would check the terms of travel insurance. There was a thread a few months ago involving a similar situation, insurance was checked and a clause (something about circumstances beyond their control) meant cancellation due to Brexit wouldn't be covered.

WrongKindOfFace · 23/01/2019 15:47

The answer is, nobody knows. We can only guess. Issues are expected in the case of no deal (and I believe at least one ferry company has already changed and cancelled some bookings) but nobody knows exactly what the issues will be, how long they will last etc.

Can you afford to lose the money if you can’t travel?

MrsLettuce · 23/01/2019 16:47

Yy. I'm sure being allowed to travel is very unlikely to be a problem. Visa isn't complex. It's the actual transport out of/into the the UK that could well be a problem

DaisyDreaming · 23/01/2019 17:35

Disney released a statement about not refunding costs caused by brexit but most regulars are still going

Eifla · 23/01/2019 18:09

YABU for wanting to go to DLP in the summer Grin Unless you like queuing.

Seriously, you’ll be fine.

Enjoy. We’re going on October.

alltheusernames · 23/01/2019 18:17

The only thing you need to wait for is the 20% off free half board deal.

FatherBuzzCagney · 23/01/2019 18:21

Sky News yesterday was reporting the contents of a leaked Border Force assessment about the impact of a no deal Brexit. I wouldn't be booking anything just yet, personally.

I'd book for summer but would hesitate if it was Easter. I'd be worried about price hikes if I waited.
