Please don't flame me too much.
I have a fairly bad cough and sore throat and feel generally unwell, lost appetite etc.
This has been for about three days.
I really don't want to be "that person" who runs to the doctor's with a cold but after having a pulmonary embolism back in March, this is the first proper cough I've had since and I think maybe that is freaking me out. Confused

Maybe 111 first to talk through your symptoms. Any fever or white spots on the tonsils?

Kindofnewtothis · 23/01/2019 08:42

One of my tonsils is swollen, also hesitant to ring 111, because of my medical history they always seem to want to send an ambulance to be on the safe side 😂

Only you can decide based on your own medical history. No one here is your GP with your full history in front of them. So not sure why you're asking. Phone your GP and they'll tell you if they think they want to see you.

That's a good idea, I'll ask to see a nurse over a gp as well

Does your GP do telephone consultations?

Snap OP - I also had a pulmonary embolism in March!

It's difficult to not worry/freak out a bit when you're not feeling well - which in itself makes you feel worse, but this does sound like a pretty standard virus. I totally get the not wanting to call 111 thing (not that I am dissing them at all - they had an ambulance on its way to me within about 15 seconds when I called whilst having the PE) as they will pretty much always err on the side of caution with y/our history, but if the sore tonsils aren't budging in a couple of days or you develop white spots on them I think a trip to the GP is in order.
