Snow (lighthearted)

Anyone else have their child run to look and see how much snow there was this morning to see if they got a day off school?

It was rather funny seeing how crushed ds14 looked when I said ‘not enough to stay off school!’

Not the kids, no, but I did! Of course we have none, it always misses us but I still hope!

I was the one running to see if I had a duvet day today. Sadly not. Couple of inches ☹️

GalacticChickenShit · 23/01/2019 07:30

No snow here, so no.

JenMumma · 23/01/2019 07:31

Did exactly the same about 4 times throughout the night but sadly, it's business as usual 🤬😫🤞😢

Believeitornot · 23/01/2019 07:32

I do this when I want a day off work!

Fightingfit2019 · 23/01/2019 07:33

We just have a dusting too where we are in Wales. To be honest I was rather looking forward to building a snowman! (Just Don’t tell my kids that!) ds18 stayed at his dads last night and has just text to say he’s gutted he’s sat on the train to uni, he had convinced himself it was a duvet day lol

No snow here just loads of frost and black ice (according to dp who has just left for work) so now we not only don't get a snow day, but we have to leave early too.

Most unimpressed. Hmm

erja · 23/01/2019 07:38

@BillywigSting same here. Don't drive either so got to brace myself to walk up the road to nursery with a toddler! Blush

Black ice is the worst. At least you can walk to some extent in snow. Black ice and ice is so dangerous.

Many years ago, my dad became dangerously ill when we had severe snow. Whilst waiting for the fire brigade (they couldn’t get the ambulance to the house because of the snow), my aunt and uncle had a phone call to say their niece had fallen on black ice and they too were waiting for an ambulance. The ambulance got to her first, but as there was complications getting my dad out, we arrived at the hospital later.

Their niece had severely broken her leg and needed it operated on. They preped her for surgery and was taking her down as my dad was admitted.

My dad than had to go straight to surgery as he was life threatening, and took her place. So they apologised and explained she would have a wait as an emergency had been taken straight to theatre. She said the nurses had a surprise when she said ‘that’s okay he’s family anyway’. 🤦‍♀️

But yes her brake was really bad, with a long recovery. But it was unavoidable- she couldn’t see any ice at all.

And dp was right. It's like a bloody ice rink out there. No gritters have been anywhere near us and the walk to school is basically one big stretch of invisible ice. Me and ds nearly went over about a dozen times and it's only a quarter of a mile walk.

I hope to god it thaws a bit later. At least the cars are all creeping along and racing like they normally do.

erja · 23/01/2019 09:58

I've just dropped DS off to nursery on a bus route (almost 2 hours late). Work starts in 3 minutes but no sign of any bus anytime soon with the traffic in the ice. Sad

Toddlerteaplease · 23/01/2019 10:00

Non here. And I'm a nurse so no snow days. Every single one of my colleagues made it to work on time last year.
