I went to the doctor today as I just can't seem to shake off the constant feelings of nausea and tiredness. I've been struggling with sleeping, averaging 2-5 hours of broken sleep a night, I always feel like crying and I've lost 6 pounds since Christmas. The gp just checked I wasn't pregnant then laughed it off and said this is how all stay at home mums feel and have I tried going to bed earlier? I asked for a blood test to check my iron levels and she huffed about like I was being a drama queen before referring me for one amd telling me to just be less run down. I feel like I wasn't taken seriously because in her eyes I'm "just a mum". Surely feeling like this isn't normal for all mums? And how does one become less rundown?

Thank you for all your replies. To update you all, I went back and asked for a different gp and well! The different gp was AMAZING. I've never had such a lovely dr before. She NOT ONCE mentioned my tiredness was normal, or even referred to my lifestyle as a sahm, but instead referred me for a full blood work up, tests to measure my hormone levels, tests to check my thyroid and for diabetes, iron and b12, a referral for a scan, and asked that I keep a bladder diary and a food intake diary for 2 weeks. She also did a pregnancy test, asked about my previous births as they were c sections and apparently I could have developed adhesions as a result, causing pelvic pain.

Thank you for all your supportive advice, I was so ready to be fobbed off again, so went in with a detailed list of my concerns, I don't think I would have been confident enough to do that without the words of advice and support from all you wonderful ladies. I feel really positive now that I will get to the bottom of this and I'll soon be able to work on getting better, so thank you so much! 😊

Has your unsympathetic GP checked your vitamin d?

SickOfBeingTired2019 · 20/03/2019 05:39

Is that checked via a blood test? If so, it will be checked when I go for tests on Friday

You star, OP - really well done. You shouldn't have had to push, but great that you were heard properly this time.

It's worth feeding back to the practice manager about your original dismissive appointment and the difference between that and this next one - really shouldn't have happened.

Let us know how you get on....

Good news. I would urge you to look up proper thyroid tests though, NHS don’t check the thyroid hormones FT3 & FT4.

Well done OP - and what a relief you got another more sympathetic/professional GP. I second feeding back to the Practice Manager - who knows how many other patients have been brushed off by the original GP?
