Shooting pain in head

AIBU to worry about this? I've been known to overreact about random symptoms so not sure whether I'm worrying unnecessarily.

I've had headaches for a few days. Average headaches, not migraines, I put it down to not drinking enough water.
Today, since I woke up, I've been getting the odd shooting pain on the right side of my skull. In line with my ear, a few centimetres above. It's not unbearably painful but it's uncomfortable and even making my right eye twitch sometimes as it feels the pain is heading down there.
While lying still this morning and after putting DC to bed, it's been happening about once every other minute. At work, it was happening about once an hour.

Should I be worried?

Nobody can or should tell you what to do - especially with a head pain. I can tell you I get this sometimes and it seems to be connected to the neck/shoulder pain that I get a lot. Ibuprofen and a good supporting pillow seems to fix it for me.

I had this, then a few bumps in my ear (shooting pain was in my head though) and found out it was shingles. Apparently the shooting pain was the nerves and caused by shingles becoming activated. I took some medication for antivirals and rested a few days. My case was mild.

If this pain is different from what you normally experience with migraines, you should go to your GP to check you over.

Google ice pick headache

I suffer from Hemicrania Continua. I only mention as you say pain from ear and you mention a twitching eye. It is however honestly the worst pain ever.

Sounds like a neuralgia type pain. I get this from time to time - usually around my ear/back of neck.
I've noticed it's often worse in very cold weather or can be linked to my headaches (I get hormonal migraines once a month).
I just take ibuprofen for it which helps. I've had it on and off for years and haven't worried about it much (my dad always says he gets the same) but I guess if you're worried chat to your GP.

Get it checked with your GP - if it's persistent head pain, they might test for Giant Cell Arteritis, which can permanently damage your sight if it's not caught quickly.
