With your best replies for somebody who is very OTT about vaccines causing autism and telling everybody about it.
Said persons son is not vaccinated and has been referred by the teacher as he thinks he has autism. But that's another matter.

Teachers don’t refer.

Claw001 · 21/01/2019 12:44

How about a bit of support for your friend, rather than gloating or finding it humorous!

Sirzy · 21/01/2019 12:47

How about supporting your friend?

You sound likely want to take advantage of the fact her son might be autistic. Hmm

grinchypants · 21/01/2019 13:12

It's not a friend, as much as somebody I know and have to be around a lot. And I absolutely don't want to exploit her son at all (although I can see it might come across that way with the tone of the post).
Refer was the words she used, so I can't clarify or elaborate on that. And I have absolutely nothing against her so whether he has autism or not.
What I am struggling with though is her attitude towards others on a daily basis and it's getting a bit much, I just wanted something new to think (or say at times when it's particularly militant) because I'm tired of the same things she says every day.
She brags about how nice it is when she's found friends actually intelligent enough not to vaccinate, and then says anybody who disagrees with her knows they can go fuck themselves and I'm stood there (as are others) a bit Shock
I don't mind her having that stance, but she can be very aggressive in her views about other people who don't share the same viewpoint and it's boring now.

I shouldn't have really added the bit in about her son that was a bit cruel, she just seems to go round so full of anger calling everybody stupid mindless sheep saying she can't understand why were putting our children at risk and I'm a bit Shock so today when it was fixed on autism I did think hang on, your son isn't vaccinated though and you complain the teachers think he's autistic, so how can you then still be stood using vaccines to angst other parents.

I'm all for everybody making their own choices I just don't want it in my face all the time, I can't really avoid this person and she's very very vocal.

I'm also shit tired of her telling us how woke she is and how we're not as enlightened as her but hey. If I was perfect

I wouldn't bother myself. Let her have her rant, don't agree and move on to another topic. Don't give her the opportunity to take it further.
Otherwise, I would switch off and go into my own headspace when she's talking and re-join when the conversation's moved on.

EwItsAHooman · 21/01/2019 13:22

Teachers can refer concerns to the school SENCO and the SENCO can make a referral to other agencies (e.g., SALT, school nursing team, services hub, etc).

Honestly OP, I'd just stay silent. Anything you say will be twisted into an argument against you and she's never going to back down or admit she's wrong so don't waste your time or your breath.

TitusP · 21/01/2019 13:31

As much as I understand you wanting to say something, there really is no point. Someone I thought very sensible turned out to be an anti-vaxer after her own children had already been vaccinated and after asking her why she thought the government would be paying to give children autism as supporting those children then cost the government more money, I realised her thought processes around this had completely shut down. It was bizarre- they are cult like in their thinking really.

grinchypants · 21/01/2019 13:51

I'm not sure that I actually would know what to say even if I knew what to say if that makes sense. Like if I could say anything much at all as it's a lot easier at the moment to either try and avoid if possible or think something else in my head (changing the subject doesn't seem to work).
I did feel gobsmacked for one mum for months though who was so polite in the way she asked her. Her son is in the same class and is having cancer treatment at the moment, he's in and out of school as and when he can be.
About 3 weeks after the school had held a special fundraiser for this child, mum was spouting the usual crap. Mum of child with cancer says to her "could you just be aware when you're saying that that by not vaccinating your children you are then sending them into class not vaccinated to sit with my son who is massively at risk". She said it so politely but militant mum said " I'm not risking my children's life for yours". Shock
