Fed up with woman at nursery... pilots licence!

She’s taken her children more places than anyone else. She travels more than anyone else. Her children have been to more countries than anyone else. And now she’s announced she is taking her pilots licence so she can fly more than anyone else.

It’s become embarrassing now. She has a history of exaggerating (she tells stories that one of us have told her as if it happened to her iyswim) but who knows, it may be true.

But please give me strength if she’s around this week. I can’t take much more.

I had a boyfriend once who had a plane. It's not all that. You can get to France in one schlep but that's about it (assuming she's not got a jet). There are no loos on board. Think on that. He bought me a she-we in case of emergency. It's not all glamour.

I used to work with a guy who claimed to have had rescued an awful lot of high st retail chains. All before doing a distinctly average public sector middle management job.

If he’d genuinely done everything he claimed he would be very very old 😂

My preferred tactic with these sorts of people is to ask for details and watch people trip themselves up. oh a weekend in thecSouth of France, how lovely, which airport did you go to? Was it near the resorts? Did you go to, oh what’s the name of that famous hotel/landmark, have you got any photos?

Watch them tie themselves in knots.

It's perfectly possible that she's getting a pilot's licence.

Sounds like she's misjudged her audience though if you think she's boasting about it, or lying.

Maybe you are a bit jealous OP because it sounds as if she has more/better holidays than you do?

wellhellothereall · 21/01/2019 19:07

Perhaps she does all those things, perhaps in the whole she hangs around with people who do those things to so to her it's not a boast it's conversation. Sounds like jealousy to me

Not beyond the realms of possibility, I know several people with pilots licences.

DH has a private pilot's licence. It cost quite a lot to get but he has enjoyed it and a few years ago, we used to have some nice afternoons out visiting other airfields. The club then sold their 4-seater plane and so he flies a 2-seater now. He is still a current flier and has used his licence for work (and it got him a ground-based job some years ago).

Maybe ask something "innocent" like: how does she cope with the meteorology or remembering the phonetic alphabet? Then you can watch her squirm...

Ummmm... My cousin has a pilots licence, but works a normal office job. It's perfectly possible to learn to fly a small plane just as you would a car, through a series of lessons in your own time. Lots of people do it as a hobby, you just need a private airfield nearby that offers the courses. It's expensive but not outrageously so. So I don't understand why you think it's so impossible?

Isn’t doing the required number of flying hours to keep your licence once you have it quite expensive too?
