I’m sorry but this is so self-indulgent.

I returned to work two weeks ago after 11 months maternity leave.

Baby has struggled to settle with childminder but Wednesday we were getting somewhere. He was a grouch all night and cried solidly for about 3/4 hours in the early hours of Thursday. By the morning it was apparent baby was sick so I’ve ALREADY had to take a day off (which work have been absolutely fine about somil very lucky there).

Baby was very ill until Saturday. But I woke up on Saturday feeling like I was at death’s door. It’s honestly the worst cold/virusy thing I’ve had in years.

DH took on all he could during the time he was home but by Saturday night he was also sick.

Baby much better, I’m now full of catarrh and ear pain with a fever as is DH.

5yo is crying on the sofa in pain because he’s getting it too.

I’m so so low. I’ve got PND and I’m seeing the doc on Friday as it’s time for tablets but I’m so tired out.

I can barely swallow, I’m half deaf and ache everywhere - I can’t inahi how dreadful my little boys must feel.

And the next week will be taken up with juggling my return to work and childcare as 5yo will not be at school for 2 days minimum.

I just want to cry.

Not sure what would happen if you rang again and said temperature was up. They may well say go in anyway. Best to.

Also best just to be sent home, better than something wrong 💜

Magicmonster · 21/01/2019 03:11

Actually I hope I don’t see you as I don’t want to catch your awful sounding lurgy! Best of luck with the visit 😬

peachgreen · 21/01/2019 03:15

Oh no. I hope you get seen quickly and all is okay.

Ifeelinclined · 21/01/2019 03:57

I have you all feel better soon!

Merryoldgoat · 21/01/2019 03:59

I’m waiting now.

Fusi - I asked on the phone what I should do if it went up and she said to still go. I have those children who can be supremely ill but make an instant in front of a doctor.

We are en route home thankfully. Doctors think she maybe has a virus and the fall was just a coincidence. Good luck OP and I hope you’re not at hospital for too long.

Merryoldgoat · 21/01/2019 04:00

Magic - if you’re in SW London maybe...

Merryoldgoat · 21/01/2019 04:01

Good Magic - really glad for you x

Magicmonster · 21/01/2019 04:01

Ah no - what a coincidence that would have been! we were at st Thomas’

Merryoldgoat · 21/01/2019 04:02

We’ve been triaged quick and only one person ahead of us now so hopefully home soon.

Fusioluxe · 21/01/2019 04:03

Is hubby with you? Or did he stay at home with your 5yo?

Merryoldgoat · 21/01/2019 04:04

We’re at Kingston - that would’ve been funny.

OP posts:
Fusioluxe · 21/01/2019 04:04

GOsh that’s quick. St thomas’ is good because it has the children’s hospital right next door if ever needed.

Merryoldgoat · 21/01/2019 04:05

Fusi - he’s home with 5yo.

Baby is about as cheerful as he’s ever been.

Little sod.

moita · 21/01/2019 05:25

Oh I feel for you. Been up since 4am with poorly 8 month old. She's nodding off again but toddler will be awake soon so no point going back to bed.

I hope your baby is lots better and you all get some rest.

Merryoldgoat · 21/01/2019 05:29

Thank you. For some reason they’re taking ages to see us - we’ve been the only people for over an hour but they must be busy behind the scenes.

Baby has fallen asleep and I can barely keep my eyes open. If I’m not seen soon I’ll get caught in rush hour.

I fucking KNEW I should’ve just waited to see my doctor - they open at 8 and they’d have seen me urgently.

You did the right thing. You sound like a fantastic mum by the way. It will get easier Flowers

Merryoldgoat · 21/01/2019 06:44

Gosh Sandy - I absolutely do not feel it! It means the world for you to say it though. Most days I feel like I’m barely getting by.

Just home now giving baby a bottle and hoping he’ll let me have a few hours.

Agree you did the right thing x

Oysterbabe · 21/01/2019 11:55

I can sympathise. Starting childcare at this time of year is just awful, I've just done it for the second time and the bugs are constant. My little boy had a settling in session at nursery just before Christmas and instantly got hand, foot and mouth. He screamed all night Christmas eve and Christmas day, couldn't breastfeed because his mouth was too sore. It does settle down after 6-8 weeks. My 3 year old is hardly ever ill now but when she first started I was so close to pulling her out because we were all so ill and unhappy.

Smotheroffive · 22/01/2019 03:00

...but you didn't say what was up... @Merryoldgoat !! Is he ok? What was the matter with him?

Spanglyprincess1 · 22/01/2019 03:09

I'm up with a baby full of cold..three hours and counting. He's only slept 2 hrs so far and screamed the rest of the way :(
Also given me his cold I suspect

Merryoldgoat · 22/01/2019 07:51

Sorry ‘smother’ - they just said his virus was causing the swings but as his appearance (like a big pink happy sunshine bloody baby) was ok he wasn’t worried.

I asked if it would’ve been more sensible for 111 to have advised me to see help from GP given his temp has gone up and he said ‘yes’,

I’m having to go to work today but I’m really not well enough. However it’s payroll day and there isn’t a chance in hell I’d miss that - not fair to anyone. There are contingencies but they’re a bit flimsy.

Baby is better, sick husband home with sick 5yo.

Oh that's good! I do think it's a case of better safe than sorry in the case of 111, I think they have to err on the side of caution, as did you, rightly, at the point you were worried. Babies go downhill so fast, but then they run right back up again don't they?! Grin. Glad he's doing better and hope you do soon too!

What a house full ofsickies you have, speedy recoveries all round Flowers
