Models?

AIBU to think that if someone needs a makeup, hair or nail model to have the pictures taken after/during/before etc for their own work or for college work then you shouldn't be charged? Or if it an apprentice who needs practice for example.

I see it as you're doing them a favour by being a model in the first place.

I went for my hair doing because the girl needs up-do's for her college work.. it was free which I'm more than happy to help them out.

But when they say, oh well need models but will be a discounted rate.. i sometimes feel that you shouldn't be paying.

AIBU? Or is this how it is nowadays to pay to be a model?

Absolutely.

(I don't really understand this thread sorry)

Yanbu. I'd expect the model to donate their time and the other person to be responsible for other costs. If there's a charge they should have said before hand. For example I had my hair cut for £11 at a hairdressing training college.

Ah ok I get it now. You're right, you shouldn't do this and expect to be charged.

Provided you're told how much you're expected to pay beforehand, and you also know you're going to be modelling beforehand, what's your problem?

If you don't want to pay the price, or you want something for free, then jog on. Otherwise pay it and get your hair/nails/whatever done the same way you always have, except someone takes a snap or two once it's finished.

Unless you're a professional model providing a professional service, I'm not sure what your issue is. And even if you were, then you choose who you work for, the same as anyone else. If they won't pay you, don't work for them. Simple.

Oh god YANBU.

I've got a contact who was desperately trying to get people to let her match a lipstick with their skin tone, they had to wear it everyday for a week, prompt feedback and report it all back to her. I offered and she told me that it would be £20 plus PP. I can buy my own sodding lippy for that, don't need to press people for feedback and don't have to write a report!
