To ask if anyone else has experienced 'hyper-fertility' after loss

I am suffering and have been for some time with recurrent miscarriage. I have been pregnant many times but it has never resulted in a living child and although I am being seen by the hospital there is nothing that can be done about my condition.

They have recently been surprised by the rate at which I seem to conceive. The last 5 miscarriages, I have conceived again straight away the following month, but then of course subsequently lose those too.

It is the only thing that is giving me hope right now, I'm worried my luck is going to run out soon. I've seen posts online about how people have found it easier to conceive after a miscarriage however, every medical expert I've spoken to has said there is no evidence to prove this but yet it continues to happen to me.

Has anyone else had experience of this after pregnancy loss?

Hello

I'm so sorry that this has happened to you, it's very very tough.

And yes, I got pregnant as soon as we started trying, had a second trimester miscarriage after premature rupture of the membranes, then went on to have two more miscarriages in rapid succession within the space of a year. After discussion with my gp, we agreed to have a break from trying whilst we waited for results from genetic testing.

Once we tried again, about 8 months later, I again got pregnant very fast - was a fairly medicalised pregnancy, on some meds and with fortnightly check-ups at the hospital. Very happy to say we got to meet our daughter at the end of it all, so please dont give up hope. I'm not sure whether the break helped physically, but it was a good thing mentally just to give myself some breathing space.

I saw some research published round about 2012 that speculated about hyperfertility and increased miscarriage, but not sure there's been anything more substantial published since then. I'll see if I can find the link but dont think it was very well established.

If you havent read it, Lesley Regan's book on miscarriage is fairly reassuring, though I know how hard it is to be optimistic: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07232ZCYJ/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21

Have your clinical team suggested any investigations?

Yes, I did, I lost a baby at 7 weeks was a mmc and foubd out at 11 wk scan, had to havs eroc to remove it, got pregnant the next month, lost at 6 wks, got pregnant the next month lost at 5wks, was told don't try again until after investigation, however I totally feel that the subsequent losses after the erpc was due to low hormones as during my cycles I didn't get the symptoms, sore boobs spots etc... as the natural cycle had been interrupted by the erpc, while waiting for the appointment after another cycle, I had all the pre menstrual symptoms again so decided to go for it, I was 12wks pregnant on the date of my recurrent mc appointment and went on to have a healthy pregnancy, dd now 10yrs. I was pregnant 4 times in 6 months, I was 37. Of course I came to this realisation in hindsight but it did make me aware of listening to my body so to speak. So sorry for your losses, I know not everyone gets their rainbow baby.

So very sorry for your losses Flowers

I’m not sure if it’s the same kind of thing but thought I would add my story incase it is any help

I get pregnant very easily, and fell pregnant the first month trying, to then miscarry at 6 weeks, I fell pregnant two months later and pregnancy went fine, had my DC1. 9 months after DC1 born I fell pregnant again, failed contraception, and again miscarried very early on. Then two years later when we tried for DC2, I fell pregnant within two months and at the 12 week scan was told baby had massive abnormalitys with the heart etc and I miscarried at 16 weeks. I then got pregnant two months later, had tests early in which came back fine and had DC2. When I went to a consultant appointment after the 16 week miscarriage he claimed that he feels I come under what he called high fertile women, where basically we fall pregnant so easily, our body even falls pregnant with the bad eggs where other women would either not get pregnant at all that month or it wouldn’t attach and show up on a pregnancy test. Not sure if this is any help to you at all but thought I would share incase. All the beat for the future. X

So sorry to hear about your losses. I’m very lucky to have 2 dc that we conceived quickly but when trying for #3 i had 4 miscarriages ranging from 6 weeks to 11 weeks, after the 4th one we decided to keep on trying, them changed our minds as we needed a break but as it turned out I was already pregnant, this was the 5th pregnancy in 11 months. I had bleeding and was put on progesterone and am now 25 weeks. We never got to the bottom of the miscarriages but I read about hyper fertility or ‘unfussy womb’ which I think applies to me but I guess will never know.
This has been a long winded post but what I’m trying to say is there is hope, it’s such a tough thing mentally and physically to go through so be kind to yourself and good luck x
