To think DH temp is to high (39.7)

HJWT · 20/01/2019 00:44

He has been quite ill for over 24 hours, had high temp last night but I didn't have a thermometer, just took his temp tonight (now) and its 39.7, I have just given him paracetamol and will re check it in half an hour... if it doesn't go down what should i do?

He has flu like symptoms and is constipated (even after taking medicine) and feels sick, sometimes cant move without my help to be pulled up.

I have a sore throat and DD has a runny nose and cough but neither of us have a temp...

If folk are going to comment, why don't they read the rest of the thread first or even just the OP's updates?

HKAB18 · 20/01/2019 11:20

Oh no I hope DH is ok OP x

U2HasTheEdge · 20/01/2019 11:36

Why don't people at least read the OP's posts before commenting.

I hope he makes a speedy recovery OP Thanks

HJWT - I hope your DH is doing well in hospital and that his condition has stabilised.

Please look after yourself as well. You mentioned that you were not well - sounds like you have the low temperature sore throat virus featuring on the MN lurgy thread - and you will need some rest once the adrenaline wears off and your worries about OH have dispersed.

Assuming OH’s condition is not of concern & if they want to keep him in overnight, could you & DD stay the night so you can get some sleep & TLC?

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 20/01/2019 11:49

Hope your dh is feeling better this morning. He’s in the right place. Take care of yourself also.

UniversalAunt · 20/01/2019 11:49

If he is discharged today, can you all stay en famille for a day or so with your mum & dad for some rest & TLC.

There are some seriously nasty viruses around this season. The maxi strength OTC meds are not touching the sides of the symptom set and it ebbs and flows in severity. Refer MN lurgy thread.

This year’s flu jab has not keep the pestilent lurgy from the doors of Chateau d’Auntie.

Healing vibes (!) to your OH.
Surely there’s a smiley for this honourable sentiment?

Divgirl2 · 20/01/2019 14:32

So glad to hear he's okay, I've been thinking about you today. Look after yourself Flowers

HJWT · 20/01/2019 14:37

Thanks everyone!! Quick question... the hospital said if he gets a high temp again (he left with a high temp 🙄) then come back... its currently 38.2 which isn't to high but what do I do if it gets to 40 again? Obvs they cant give him anything in hospital for Flu but I cant be doing with him passing out again !!!

PrivateDoor · 20/01/2019 14:45

Alternate paracetomol and ibuprofen (one or the other every 3 hours), plenty of tepid wash downs, window open, fan on if he can tolerate it. Keep him sipping fluids as much as he can tolerate. Hopefully this will help to control his temp. If despite these measures, his temp remains very high, then I would call 111 for advice - best to keep him away from hospital if at all possible.

HJWT · 20/01/2019 15:29

@PrivateDoor ok great thank you for advice !! He is being a bit soft with blanket but iv made a deal 20 mins on and 20 mins of 😁

“best to keep him away from hospital if at all possible.”
Very sensible advice as I hear these places are full of sick people.

HJWT · 20/01/2019 15:48

@UniversalAunt mainly drunk idiots this morning... think it is about time they get a fine on the way out for alcohol poisoning/Binge drinking🤮 they wouldn't do it then, I'm sure they will regret it if they catch DH flu 😫

DangerMouse17 · 20/01/2019 15:54

Bless you OP, what a fright you've had! Glad DH is back at home with you now. Flu is awful and you have my sympathies. I hope he recovers quickly.

buttons101 · 20/01/2019 15:54

Your poor DH, hope he feels better soon!

If his temperature keeps peaking like that, tepid baths may help. Lots of rest, fluids and flannels for him. Influenza is a nasty one; really annoys me when people refer to a bad cold as "the flu" but that's a whole other rant Grin

HappyBumbleBee · 21/01/2019 12:25

HJWT If his temp rises again and you're concerned ring either the hospital or gp for advice as to whether to go back in x Keep the cold flannels going on his forehead and on his wrists - on the wrists helps a it cools blood as its being pumped around body xx

HJWT · 23/01/2019 20:27

Hi everyone the tamiflu worked and he is on the mend, i got quite unwell for 24 hours but the flu jab must of worked as i just have cold symptoms now thankfully!
