To think this isn't normal

I have a six year old. Every so often he wakes in the early hours of the morning randomly vomits for a few hours where he can't keep stuff down not even water. At about 9/10am he's absolutely fine. No other symptoms. This happens about 4/5 times a year. At first I though he was just hungry so I started given him a light snack before bed. I've brought him to the doctor who said it's nothing to worry about. The problem is I can't send him into school when he's sick so he's missing a fair bit over this. I've said it to a few mums but none of them have ever heard of anything like this. I don't think it's a bug as all the times he's been sick none of us have been sick either and he has no other symptoms. AIBU to think this isn't normal and should I be pushing for tests to get done?

I used to be like this as a child, the dr put it down to migraines (although I didn’t have a headache).
I am still prone to migraines now, but proper ones.
I would take him to the GP and see what they say.

Have you heard of cyclic vomiting syndrome? It sounds similar.

Definitely check out cyclic vomiting Syndrome and see if the triggers, symptoms fit DS’s.

My 4 year old does this too. It usually happens when he hasn't eaten his dinner the night before (picky eater, not ill) and then got too hungry and had some water. I don't keep him off school now, because I've learned that it is just him and not a bug.

This happened to me for 2-3 years. I massively cut down on wheat, dairy and processed foods and haven’t had a problem since.
