Or would this annoy you too?

We live in a semi rural setting and as such everyone around these parts has a dog or two. (We have one, small, friendly, not too yappy thank God.) We are a family of animal lovers and I mention this to put the following in context.

Recently, our neighbours on one side (we are detached) have acquired two enormous and vocal guard dogs. Neighbour is not the friendliest but we keep ourselves to ourselves and it’s not a problem or at least it wasn’t until they got these bloody dogs.

If we open an exterior door on our property one or both of these dogs start barking, running to the fence and growling. Without fail. Getting in our car - growled at. Two huge dogs with a flimsy wire fence between our properties. The other morning they woke us all up at 4 am with their barking.

We have approached our neighbour to see if we could meet these dogs and if they got our scent and saw us as ‘friends’ rather than foe the aggression might stop. The neighbours have not responded. As I said, they are not particularly friendly but we have never had any cause to complain before. (And we have never received any neighbour complaints either.)

I want to do some gardening tomorrow but honestly being barked at constantly in my own garden is making me feel a bit ugh.

All thoughts/advice greatly appreciated, thank you.

I'm a dog lover (and have a dog) but this would seriously piss me off. If they won't respond to your concerns/request, report them to the council as a noise nuisance.

I have a dog and do love animals but this would drive me nuts (can't even stand the wind chime nextdoor!).
Are the neighbours usually in when the dogs are barking? You'd imagine it would annoy them too.
I think you could try and befriend the dogs (ham?) but if they're proper trained guard dogs they might not make friends outside of their pack.
Sorry op, sounds awful 😔😔😔

Yes, it would really annoy me but I don't think theres much you will be able to do about it unfortunately. Do they rent? Contact the landlord maybe.

SamBaileys · 18/01/2019 21:45

Also, what are the dogs like with your own dog?

Woofbloodywoof · 18/01/2019 21:46

Thanks both, glad you don’t think I’m being overly sensitive. They are properly trained, very expensive guard dogs. Our neighbours are very paranoid about security- cctv everywhere. There are people on the property at the same time as the dogs - I think they have just got used to it or don’t care about their neighbours. Very large property (think 10+ acres) so they could put the dogs on the side that doesn’t have neighbours. They are not very approachable at all, unlike all our other lovely neighbours.

I love dogs but this would annoy me - not that it's the dogs fault.

This sounds like some people who recently moved away from where I live, sorry have nothing to add but I was wanted to say I know how you feel totally. We had 3 years of hell with them living near by. Us and all the surrounding neighbours were soooo pleased when they moved away.

Wonder if it's the same people haha
