So today I have just handed my notice in as since returning from mat leave the job is different, the staff have all changed and my role has changed and I really was not happy. I have to work my notice obve but then I need a new job. I'm thinking of going part time (personal family issues) but wanted to know if there is anyone who can give advice on financial help we would be entitled to. It confused me so much! My partner is a low wage in full time work, and I obviously won't be earning as much as I was. I'd be very grateful to here from you all, and suggestions of flexible work/possible home work suggestions. Tia 😊

If you google “benefits calculator” there is calculators online that you can enter your income into and it will give you and idea of what you can get.

No idea what you do for work but maybe look at supermarkets as they tend to advertise the hours they need filling so you can work around each other. Or if you drive/cycle would you consider doing something like Deliveroo? Or becoming a Uber drive?

You may be sanctioned if you have resigned.

Sorry what do you mean by this?

Thank you for your reply. I looked at the calculator. Was a bit confused, maybe because I'm not thinking straight right now. I do plan on part time work but have to find this first I guess before I can use the tool.

Because you have voluntarily resigned. Sanctions are like a penalty. So if you lose your job because you are sacked you can claim benefits. If you resign you could be sanctioned therefore not eligible for a certain period of time.
It doesn't apply to all benefits though so it depends what you intend to claim.
Go and see the citizens advice bureau

Thank you I understand. I am waiting for citizens advice to get back to me. It's impossible to actually get to speak to someone it would seem so emailed.

So if you lose your job because you are sacked you can claim benefits.

Don't be so sure. My friend was sacked and she couldn't claim for 26 weeks.

If you resign, you will by virtue of your partners job, be a low income family, and entitled to certain benefits. Thousands of women don't return to work after maternity leave and are not 'sanctioned'.
