rant about bras

Have done the interventions. Wearing the right size, right style, right everything but still have such a mixed experience. One day my bra can fit like a glove and I am delighted with the world. The next day I am wearing an instrument of torture and my mood plummets. I have to wear the buggers - working in customer service and 34K :(

Am I on my own to have such a mixed experience of this garment / instrument of torture?

I recommend looking at maternity/nursing bras. You can find ones that give good support and are pretty, too. So many comfortable bras give you a terrible shape and/or are ugly.

OK ordered a Jacquard. Again regularly comes up as a recommendation.

I'm convinced there's a lack of common sense in bras - someone could make a fortune

why is everything padded or lacy or only available somewhere madly expensive?!

I wear Vitella something - bralet - am a D cup. Just looked at M&S and the only non itchy option seems to be in A - C.

FFS Jacquard only starts at a 36 back Confused

I have some triumph bras and tend to find that going up a band size works best for me. Normally 32GG/H but the triumph bra that fits me best is actually 34F. Not Doreen, though!

keepingbees · 19/01/2019 21:03

Have you looked at Curvy Kate? They are reasonably priced and the one I had fitted well.
I totally feel your pain though. I live near a factory shop that sells discounted bras like Freya in all sizes. I've been measured and fitted but get so sick of them fitting in the shop then becoming hell after a few hours. I actually have scarring on my sides from the underwire of one.
I would kill for a reduction Sad

32J here, and Molke all the way. They do look a bit different to other bras, but since I hit a 30E at 15, they are the ONLY bra that I don’t feel a desperate urge to take off after I get home from work. They don’t fit under low cut stuff, but they lift and separate and I have no ‘double boob’. The cup isn’t fixed, so they flex with you and no ‘monoboob’. For goodness sake though, don’t try and put the bloody thing on when still damp from the shower. I do however, genuinely think those who didn’t get on with them probably ordered the wrong size.

lifecouldbeadream · 19/01/2019 21:13

What really gets my goat though is that manufacturers are STILL making bras that clearly fit no-one. The majority of women are still wearing the wrong size bra. They will never start producing correctly fitting bras as there is ‘no demand’. The reason there is no demand, is because they keep flogging women bras that don’t fit. Angry. Mothercare should have this nailed- I could not buy a bra from them that came even close to fitting. M&S should have this nailed.... same issue.

You’re right. When at 25 I was measured as 36E I went home and cried. Now I look at that size, I think it’s a natural proportion but why was I under the impression this was horrific. Fucking fashion industry focusing on the androgynous figure. Which is why I will not have a reduction. I’ve read on MN enough women who are comfortable with large breasts. And I’m delighted that no one has commented that it’s possible to reduce breast size by dieting and therefore problem solved.

Yes I go to Curvy Kate. Buy from Amazon. 30HH so impossible to buy anything in shops. Bravissimo is a load of crap (nearest store is also a loooong way away).

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/01/2019 22:41

Anyone who tells me to drop breast size by losing weight is getting smacked 😂. When I lose weight it comes off my band measurement- so my cup size often actually goes up.

keepingbees · 19/01/2019 22:58

I only want a reduction because they cause me terrible back pain. Cosmetically I could totally live with them being outside the 'norm'.
I agree, losing weight does nothing,

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/01/2019 23:26

Mine don't cause back issues as long as I'm wearing a really good, firm banded wired bra. As soon as I wear anything soft or loose my posture goes and I get back pain.

MrsAckles1991 · 19/01/2019 23:29

I’m a 36HH and I can wear mine a couple of hours before it has to come off or else I’ll ping out of it like a firework!

I’ve got a bra extender which really helps, but I just basically need to stop eating my body weight in carbs, that’s the only answer!

Twotabbycats · 20/01/2019 00:10

I feel your pain but don't think I can help much as I am a big back size and medium cup (E - yes I've measured correctly!) I have to have the wires as otherwise my breasts merge with my stomach! My problem is wires digging in under the arm. I did lose a bit of weight, didn't change bra size but they felt more comfortable...unfortunately I put most of it back on!

I like Curvy Kate but partly because they are not too high cut under the arm, so they may not be for you. Other brands I like (ie the least painful, but still not painfree) are Elomi and Fantasie. Conversely Pour Moi bras don't fit me at all so maybe they will work for you!

I wear soft bras at home and if I have to fly, I absolutely have to be comfortable on a plane! I have a triumph soft cup one that I like but it's old and I don't know the name... but worth a try. And a few from M&S but they're not very supportive. My most supportive softcup bra is a Bestform one, but I got it a band size bigger than normal and it's still tight!
