To feel a bit weird about this gift now

Sort of lighthearted I suppose... My boyfriend bought me a beautiful set of professional chef’s knives for Christmas which I mentioned to my DM to the other day. She looked horrified and said it was well known to be bad luck to receive knives as a gift. I’m not superstitious (apart from about magpies for some reason) but it has made me feel a bit weird. Has anyone else heard of this? Can I reverse the bad luck in any way?!

@pointings
Yes, I keep saying I want to go H.O.M.E as its the personification of home 😁

Poor Matt and Luke. They wanted to be taken seriously and are just being laughed at all over again. Bet the documentary maker isn't on their Christmas card list Grin

Give him a penny If it makes you feel better.
I don't know anyone who doesn't feel a broken mirror is bad luck. Guess the auld wife's tales still hold muster!

My nan used to say if you dropped your keys you couldn't pick them, someone else had to or it was bad luck. This is so impractical!

Sharp knives and warm gloves are fantastic presents and demonstrates he wanted to buy things you would love, want to use but also practical.

Unless he has alternative macabre ideas to see how you use them based on your profession and will borrow your gloves Shock

I’ve paid him 2p, and will look out for any signs of him being a serial killer, cheers!

I got 3 knives this year for Xmas, only one person gave me a penny. 😂 it's a ridiculous superstition

Charley50 · 19/01/2019 17:49

I'm not superstitious generally but I do abide by this ridiculous one for some reason, mainly because I heard that so many different countries / cultures have this same superstition.

I also 'touch wood.' No idea why really! Smile

I only don't walk under a ladder if there is someone on it, in case they drop something. If the ladder is 'empty' then it's fine.

Cant remember if I can't eat fish on a Friday or not. Or was it no meat and should eat fish?
