To be going grey at 24?!

Anyone else?!

I am 24 and I am going grey. Not just one or two but properly! I found my first 2 years ago now.

It's getting to the point where I'm going to have to consider starting to dye my hair (which I hate).

Did anyone else go grey young? None of my friends have even found one! They all thing it's bizarre when I tell them.

DP is 8 years older than me and doesn't have one the bastard.

I had greys at 24.
Likely because I had 4x dc!!

badlydrawnperson · 18/01/2019 08:27

YANBU

My grey started as a streak at 18.

At least it's a popular colour choice these days - it wasn't then.

InTheBirdBox · 18/01/2019 08:28

I don't have any children to blame it on Sad

I do have a DP who I was with 2 years ago now... Hmm coincidence?!

I'm 24 and have a few white hairs, also found a white pube once Blush I'm not at the stage of having to think about covering it but I understand the reluctance to dye your hair. But a friend of mine the same age dyes her hair a lilac tinged grey just because she likes it, it can look quite cool.

Villanellesproudmum · 18/01/2019 08:31

I’ve been grey since about 18 I bet you find lots of responses saying similar.

Mojitomogul · 18/01/2019 08:31

25 here and have to dye my roots every four to five weeks, i have greys round the front and top but also now coming through the back too, luckily its cheap as I do my own roots with salon dye, but my hair is long and thick so its a mission!

Tyrionsbitch · 18/01/2019 08:33

Yep me! I'm early 30s now and have to dye my hair every 5 weeks. Got loads of grey but hair is dark so it's very noticeable when it grows.
Think I started at 21ish.
I'm used to it and it doesnt overly bother me, i often make jokes about it.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 18/01/2019 08:34

Grey hair in on trend for young people right now. People will think you've had expensive great streaks!

newnameforthis7 · 18/01/2019 08:34

I think it's genetic. I didn't sprout a grey hair til I was 48. DH got his first at 35.

Also I think they show up more (and maybe earlier,) if you have dark hair. I have always been blonde.

24 does sound early tbh. Don't know anyone who has got grey hairs that early. (Then again they would dye it and wouldn't say anyway!!!)

London91 · 18/01/2019 08:34

I'm 27 and have been going grey for a couple of years. Considering touching up my roots because people are starting to notice as I have naturally really dark hair 😔 maybe consider just using one of the touch up kits to save you dying all your hair? Then you'll only be dying the bits that you need to.

InTheBirdBox · 18/01/2019 08:34

Yes mine is all around the front and top. So far it's been sort of underneath so I can cover it but it's starting to show now.

I'm also very dark so although I think grey/lilac hair looks pretty nice, it would be such a contrast to my natural colour!

Have to start getting the dye out by the looks of it. I've not dyed my hair at all, I'm so reluctant to start now Sad

I've had white not grey hair since I was 24 too, I didn't have to start dying it until I was 29 but now I have to every 6 weeks other wise I'm about 40 percent white.
I saw some vitamins in Holland And Barrett the other day that claimed to help stop early greying of hair but no idea if they work, way too late for me now I'm 33.

Erwhatjustcameoutofme · 18/01/2019 08:34

My grey hair started at 22 Sad my friend was about 18 when hers started to grey.

I’m 28 now and just dye it every 5/6 weeks just to cover the grey. Sucks though.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 18/01/2019 08:34

Grey streaks even! Although they may look great! Flaunt it!

Slippershoes · 18/01/2019 08:34

I found my first at 26, stayed as just a few along the parting until I was 32.
Why are they always about 6inches long before they are noticed?

Itstimetoscream · 18/01/2019 08:35

My younger sister started getting grey hair in her early 20's and because she has dark hair it really showed but she dyed it once a month. I'm early 30s and after I had my last child I have started going grey, I've always dyed my hair so doesn't make much difference apart from when my routes are showing and I can see the grey lol.

newnameforthis7 · 18/01/2019 08:36

Woah! Looking at these responses, it looks like it ISN'T that rare.

InTheBirdBox · 18/01/2019 08:37

It doesn't even feel like proper hair, it feels/looks like silvery wire!

Grin at the grey pube! I haven't found any of those yet, touch wood.

It’s genetic. My parents are both completely grey. In fact I don’t remember my dad having anything other than grey hair and my mum dyed hers for years. I started to go grey in my early 20’s and it’s for worse since I had DDs. I usually ask the hairdresser to do an all over dark colour and weave in a few highlights around the front so that the grey won’t be so apparent.

InTheBirdBox · 18/01/2019 08:41

See, I know it's genetic so no helping it really but the illogical portion of my brain is so annoyed that I've always been the one to treat my hair so well never dying it, very rarely using heat on it etc... And now it goes and betrays me this way.

If you don't want to, then don't. Don't be sucked into the trap of thinking that somehow you are not a proper woman if you have natural grey hair. That's just the media and societal pressure.

My brother started going bald in his teens (about 14). Looking older has always helped his career, as people assumed he was a lot more experienced than he was.

Thank God somebody said this. I started finding grey hairs at 24, and at 35 have a noticeable number. I sometimes dye my hair If I fancy a change, but not to cover the grey. Sometimes I quite like them.

InTheBirdBox · 18/01/2019 09:02

Yes, I suppose I don't need to dye it. Perhaps it's just the pattern in which they are growing right now but I'm really not liking the look on me so far though!

I started going grey at that age & by 45 was totally white. Perfectly happy with it.

Grey pubes did not appear until late 40's & they are still (mid 60s) not all grey! Underarm hair is still jet black.

KatherinaMinola · 18/01/2019 09:23

I started going grey in my twenties. Still got ID'd though Confused

A friend at university started going grey at 19!
