To be worried about where now with our country?

I can't see any way out of the mess our country is in and I am worried about the future.

No. I'm triggered by the toxicity etc.

Breakawaygirl · 16/01/2019 16:09

I think it's all too soon to worry. We don't know how it will all pan out yet. Basically I think worrying before something happens is punishing yourself twice - we are all pretty much in the same boat so we will get through it together.

partinor · 16/01/2019 16:11

I do know life will go on. But there seems to be no way forward. There is talk about extending the timetable. But I'm not sure how that will help.

We're not all pretty much in the same boat, though.

Some people are wealthier. Some people aren't on medications they need to take every day of their lives. Some people don't have cancer. Some people can buy their way out of shortages and chaos.

And some people are not wealthy, are unwell, are carers or need caring for, and are more dependent on the state. If the state is in the shit, they are disproportionately affected in a negative way.

snurguzelly · 16/01/2019 16:16

"But I'm not sure how that will help."

It won't help. My anxiety is through the roof.

PavlovianLunge · 16/01/2019 16:23

I agree, but Brexit or no, the only way the lot of disadvantaged people might improve is when the Tories are booted out of power. Trouble is, I don’t know how any subsequent government would be able to stop the rot without hiking up taxes, which, as a manifesto, would probably render any party unelectable.

Bellasorellaa · 16/01/2019 16:25

op worrying wont solve anything

Petalflowers · 16/01/2019 16:28

Me too.

icannotremember · 16/01/2019 16:29

Grin Grin Grin

This is like the Tory's old "we're all in this together" justification of austerity. No, we are not all in the same boat. We will not all get through it. Those in the nice big boat will be OK. Those with no boat at all will not.

DarlingNikita · 16/01/2019 16:31

YANBU. It is political stalemate on a scale I've never seen and there is no good way out.

Bombardier25966 · 16/01/2019 16:33

Wasn't that dodgy Dave's big society spin, we're all in this together? Because that's worked out well hasn't it!

I don't know what worries me more, the rise of the extreme right, the shitshower we've got in government, or the level of apathy from all too many citizens.

Bombardier25966 · 16/01/2019 16:34

I heard someone trot out the "strong and stable" line yesterday. Some people will suck up anything that's put in front of them.

lolaflores · 16/01/2019 16:35

Now more than ever has the myth of "we're all in this together" been exploded. It's gonna be a white knuckle ride

PickAChew · 16/01/2019 16:36

Strongly and stabley fucked.

Bombardier25966 · 16/01/2019 16:37

And this is what happens when politicians play divisive games. First Jo Cox, now the mayor of Gdansk.

That is awful

OP posts:
partinor · 16/01/2019 17:06

Its not even about what option we have. I just can't see any credible option that is going to get enough MPs to agree to it.
The main barrier to any option is peace in NI.

OP posts:
Thequaffle · 16/01/2019 17:09

We’re not in the same boat. The upper slice of society won’t be impacted whatsoever - their children will still attend costly prep schools, they will continue to live in large comfortable houses, take holidays, have trust funds, make investments, eat well, wear expensive clothes, and have the very best healthcare until they die.
It’s the other boats that are fucked.

Bluntness100 · 16/01/2019 17:09

To be honest, I'm a little worried too. I don't like Teresa mays adamant approach today we are leaving at the end of March, we can't agree a new deal and have it passed into legislation by then, and we can't do no deal so I'm not sure what she's playing at and it's worrying,

partinor · 16/01/2019 17:16

The EU are saying clearly that any new deal is not going to be significantly different. The only real options are:

  • No deal crash out
  • No Brexit
  • Slightly changed deal that has just been rejected

I can't see any of these options getting cross party support.

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 16/01/2019 20:09

No neither can I. Which means it's back to the people. And back to the people is all about what question they actually ask. They fucked it the first time, so this time they need to ask the right question, that where one of the options won't kill us.
